2/28/25-4/13/25 Sepsis, Take 5

The past 6 weeks have been a blur of hospital visits, doctor office visits, wound clinic visits, sickness, rest, recuperation.

On February 28, Andy began having symptoms of cellulitis. We went to the ER. They gave us some anitbiotics and offered to admit him March 1 at midnight we were still there (gave Andy a happy 59th birthay kiss) and decided to go home to try to resolve this.

Antiboitics taken for 10 days and seems to be good.

On Sunday, March 23, did squeezer pants treatment from 7-8 p.m. Had been feeling healthy and well all day (had our usual Sunday dinner with family and church etc). At 9 p.m. temperature was normal but Andy started having horrible muscle spasms. Could hardly talk through them.  Considered going to the ER but after tylenol and muscle relaxant Andy was able to go to sleep about 10:45 p.m.  We could find no sign of infection but his temperature was up to 99.6. Is a little nauseous, thinks might have the flu as I had it a week earlier and a coworker had it a couple of days ago.

    Monday, March 24 (off work)
1:45 a.m. sleeping but temp up to 101.6
    2:30 a.m. vomiting
5 a.m. Temp 100.5, vomit. Took more tylenol. Noticed rash and heat on left leg.
    6:20 a.m. Temp 101.9. Took thyroid & muscle relaxant
6:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. ER visit. They gave him IV antibiotics and another 10 day antibiotic pills. Offered         to have us stay but opted to go home to recover.
    10:00 a.m. Slept
12:00 noon 3 tylenol, vomit, Sat outside for a little while in the sunshine. ate some toast
    1:00 p.m. antiboitc
3:00 p.m. different antibiotic, 3 tylenol, ate two bites of lunch
3:30 p.m. extremely tired, aching, very red leg, went to bed.
    6:30 p.m. dinner, some pizza
7:00 p.m. red antibiotic, still sore and tired
    7:30 p.m. to bed, sleep

Text sent to the kids:  Just wanted to let everyone know we're over at the hospital with dad. After dinner about 9 pm he finished his squeeze pants and started getting muscle spasms that were pretty severe and lasted about an hour. After Tylenol and muscle relaxant he was able to go to sleep. He had a rough night and woke a couple times to vomit and his temperature increased from normal to 101.9. Upon examination at 5:30 this morning I could see his right leg was red and swollen and hot and the rash was up his leg as well.(There was no rash earlier examinations) It has been confirmed that he has cellulitis infection again. They are going to give him iv antibiotics and send him home in hopes we can get him well again. If he backslides at all we will need to bring him back and get admitted. I think they are letting us go home because we have experience with this. Keep dad in your prayers. Love you guys 😍

    Tuesday, March 25 (off work)
12:45 a.m. woke up to 101 fever, took white and red antibiotic, 3 tylenol, muscle relaxer, not feeling                 any better, redness seems same on legs
8 a.m. seemed pretty good, Took medication. Had a little enrgey, talkative, ate some toast, normal temp
10:30 a.m. ate 3 bites of breakfast, took antibiotics. Faded fast after breakfast.
    11-3 p.m. nap
showered, weak and unsteady, fell into clothes rack, fever 101
4:30 p.m. Dr. Carter office. Temp 102.2. Given different antibiotics, and a shot of rocephin by dr.
Seems to make improvement. Dr. Carter confirmed sepsis diagnosis along with cellulitis.

Text sent to kids: Update: Andy woke up and seemed pretty good but then took a turn this afternoon. His fever spiked to 102 and his redness intensified and spread. We went to our dr who changed his prescription and gave him a shot. He’s doing better already. If it gets worse again we should go back to the hospital. He is supposed to return to the doctor for the next couple of days and get more antibiotics shots. He also was referred to the wound clinic. The dr thinks this was caused by the foot dr doing some cutting on his feet last month. He still has some wounds from that visit that need help healing. Hoping he bounces back soon.

    Wednesday, March 26 (off work)
Went to Dr Carter office for shot of rocephin, stayed home again but on the mend.

    Thursday, March 27
    Went to work
Got shot of rocephin and went to wound clinic where they put him in a compression boot to try to force         the infection out of his leg up into his system.
Tired by made it through the day.

Text to kids: Today the wound dr wrapped his leg. He said this will be all over in 7-10 days and shouldn’t happen anymore. He’s going to prescribe a compression sock that will keep his legs thin and beautiful. I guess we’ll see!! He said he shouldn’t need many more antibiotics…just had to force the fluid out.Things are looking up!!

Friday, March 28, Saturday, March 29 and Sunday March 30
Went to work, rested, went to church (tired but ok)

    Monday, March 31
    went to work
2 p.m. wound clinic - remove and replace compression boot with tighter boot.

    Tuesday, April 1
    went to work
    Came home feeling awful
4 p.m. went to walk-in clinic (We were blessed, Dr. Carter was on the rotation for walk-in that day)
Vomitting, had to take a wheel chair to get him into the office. Could not walk any distance.
Given rocipherin, anti nausea and acid control. Fever.

    Wednesday, April 2 (off work)
started feeling better, stayed home and rested

Text to kids: Update: relapse or the flu? Don't know. Just got back from the doctor. He threw up there and before as well. Body aches, freezing. The usual. Poor guy. They gave him some antibiotics and anti nausea and did a bunch of tests. He's in bed sleeping now.

Personally, I think he still had some toxins in him from last week and when they put him in the new boot on Monday it squeezed a fresh batch of ick up into his system and now he's having to fight that off. And sitting at the desk is not good for him either.

    Thursday, April 3
    went to work
2 p.m. wound clinic. Another remove and rewrap compression sleeve

Text to kids: Good News. Dad is back to work. Hoping he doesn't overdo it. He's still tired but the major nasty symptoms have gone away.

    Friday, April 4
    went to work
    came home very weak, rested

    Saturday, April 5
felt a little better. Went to visit Laura and have breakfast. Stopped and got gas on way home after a short         visit. Standing just those few minutes exhausted him. Came home and rested all afternoon.
8 p.m. went to Albertsons. Walked around for about 20 minutes and then had to go sit down.

Sunday, April 6 (Conference Sunday, no church)
9:30 a.m. got up and did morning routine and then was exhausted
    10:30 a.m. ate breakfast
11 a.m. temp 99.6, in pain, tired, emotional. Gave 3 tylenols, got him comfortable, slept 2 hours and             was a bit better.

    Monday, April 7
    went to work
Wound clinic, remove and rewrap compression

    Thursday, April 10
Wound clinic, remove and rewrap compression

Andy was able to go to work this whole week. Even worked a ball game Friday night. His energy is still limited but seems to be improving each day with some minor set backs here and there. We have more wound clinic visits scheduled next week but home to be through this by the end of this week.

   Sunday, April 13
11:20 a.m. Was going to go to church but feels clammy and tired and has a terrible headache. Goes to bed instead.

11/09/24 The temple

St George Temple This morning I woke up early and continued to read "Your Endowment", a book Grandma Griffin gave me several years ago but that I never read cover to cover. It is of course, about the temple and the meaning behind the endowment and the other things we learn about in the temple. I'll be honest, a lot of it feels "over my head".  I am seeking to learn and know and understand more but I don't have a thorough understanding at this time.  Kathy and Steve Spring Yesterday I went to visit Kathy Spring. She worked at Washington City for many years and retired almost 3 years ago. We were good friends and she helped me in the court for quite awhile. Her husband died in January of 2020...looking back she is convinced it was covid but it was just before covid really became a thing. So it's not official. In about a years time she lost her Dad, her husband, her son and a grandson. Life was pretty rough when we were friends back then and I could see the...

10/06/24 Repairs, Funeral, Marathon, Retirement Party, Car Show, Murder Mystery, Dr Visits, Pets, Food & Church. O my!

Macy Bundy, Hudson Jones, Emily Francis It's been a wonderful, packed week with good stuff going on all around. Sunday during church I went to Andy's class for 1/2 of the second hour. The kids are nine and kind of a handful sometimes...but there was only three and they were pretty cute and fun. After Andy taught his class he went to Primary singing time and I went to the second half of a combined YW/YM class.  We had Sunday dinner with Randy & Kay, AJ, GPA, and us. Eldon and Diane are on an Elderhostel trip and will be gone for a couple Sundays with other responsibilities. Andy smoked drumsticks and I made homemade bread and cookies (both new recipes). All of our dinner was SO GOOD!!!!  Sometimes it just works, and this was one of those! YuM! Raspberry filled cookies Delicious homemade bread Bryce and Marlee and Mo left fairly early on Sunday morning. They went out to Enterprise to see her brother's kids in the primary program. They had lunch and then stopped at Holly a...

11/10/24 Election, 28 year Anniversary, 1 year Anniversary and a Sealing

Well I'm starting this early cause tomorrow morning I'm going walking extra early. But I'm still calling it 11/10.   I'm gonna run through this week and see if anything was exciting.  But first...this picture...It just kills me!  When church is just too much! Haha.  I think that was at youth conference a couple of years ago and I think it's one of the Francis boys...but I couldn't swear to it! I know you're not supposed to take pictures in the chapel.  But seriously...I couldn't resist! Speaking of the Francis family. Today at 2:30 p.m. at the Red Cliff's Temple, they sealed Laith to their family. Laith will make child # 10 (or 12?)  (And he is 10 years old).  Laith's mother died very unexpectedly within the last couple of years. Shortly thereafter his father was arrested and has been sentenced to spend the rest of his childhood and beyond (I don't know the # of years) in prison. He's a challenging child AND he got bumped around a little....
