09/24/07 Letter to Johnny on his mission

Hi Jonny!      How are things on the other side of the world?  It’s already tomorrow there too, huh.  That is so weird!  What season is it there now?  Is that screwed up too?     Things are about the same here.  Aj is working his tale off trying to pass all his classes and do football and work.  It’s good for him I guess…  He asked a girl to homecoming and we are anxiously awaiting a reply.  He says he’s ok if she says no because she was “Plan B.”  The girl he wanted to go with already had a date.  This will be his “first date” if she says yes.  Kind of scary to start SO BIG…I guess homecoming is an all day event now instead of just dinner and a dance…  Dallas has been camping and we had MAJOR rain – so he got to come home early and soaked.  Yuck.  That doesn’t even sound fun at all.    Bryce is anxiously awaiting his first camp out.  He is trying to g...

05/30/07 Letter to Rebecca Chase

I started writing you yesterday and got slammed and never did write.  So ... next school year we have AJ in High School --- a junior... holy crap I'm old...  And Dallas will be in 7th grade, Bryce in 6th grade at the intermediate school and Katie in Kindergarten at the Elementary.  The next year we'll have one in every school.  High, Middle, Intermediate and Elementary.  That ought to be fun. Katie is excited to start school but we are still waiting to find out if she'll go all day kindergarten or half day.  75% of the kids will be all day.  82% of the children requested all day.  So some children will not be all day.  They said they are trying to find the ones that "need" the most help.  Katie tested really well and probably doesn't "need" the all day...so we'll see.  One of my best friends is the all day kindergarten teacher and we wanted to be in her class though so we are fighting for her.  Bryce had her and did really ...

03/27/06 Eyes and awnings

3/27/2006 LETTER TO BECKY Hey how's it going?  I haven't talked to you for awhile...since I was up there I guess.  That seems like a lifetime ago! My eyes are not just right yet,  sad but true.  My right eye is about perfect but my left eye had that problem with bleeding under the flap (hit a blood vessel) and so I still have not great vision there.  It is giving me headaches but I am hopeful it will get better soon.  Everybody keeps telling me to just be patient but you know how good I am at that! We are supposed to get our awning today or tomorrow - across the back of the house.  I think it will make the house cooler this summer.  Andy thinks it will feel a little claustrophobic and closed in...i hope not.  We have had problems with grass not growing and everything we put out back being ruined by the extreme sun and heat.  I am hoping this will help with all that... We'll see!  ...

12/23/05 Piano

12/23/2005 LETTER TO JENNIFER DAVIS MAST (FRIEND FROM HIGH SCHOOL) I have an old out of tune piano from around the 1920's sometime. I used to know but have long since forgotten.  I could take the piano apart to find out, but am not that ambitious!  It was an ugly old beast - an upright grand - and a bear to move.  When it crossed the threshold of our latest home my husband said -- if we ever sell this house the piano is going with it!  (We were fortunate enough that when we originally purchased it the guy wanted it out of his house so bad he delivered it for free -- and he had some piano mover equipment). I was able to take apart the piano and remove the original panels and recover them.  The first time I did it in a maroon velvet and the second time a dark material.  It looked SO much better after it's $10 makeover.  I think I liked the velvet better but I couldn't find any more of that material cheap when I went to redo...

10/11/05 Anniversary, Webelos Day camp & mice

Andrew Shopinski, Dallas Griffin, Colton Turner and Ryan Del Toror Arrow of Light Ceremony 10/11/2005 Letter to Becky Things are crazy as usual. Yesterday I had off – Columbus Day – had a nice day.  I did some laundry and house stuff but nothing too serious!  Mostly just hung out with Andy and the girls and had a nice day. Andy and I had a nice Anniversary get-away last Wednesday.  Andy’s parents came and watched the kids from 1 p.m. – 9 p.m. and we went to Mesquite and got a room and had a buffet and went swimming and then went home.  Would have been nice to stay over night but it is TOO much hassle at this stage. Webelos Day Camp, Dallas Griffin middle Saturday was Webelos Day camp.  It was pretty cool.  They had 6 stations where they did requirements.  They had a science rotation, made catapults, did art work, learned how to use a knife and build a fire, rope tying and compass use.  They had a catered lunch...
