05/30/07 Letter to Rebecca Chase

I started writing you yesterday and got slammed and never did write.  So ... next school year we have AJ in High School --- a junior... holy crap I'm old...  And Dallas will be in 7th grade, Bryce in 6th grade at the intermediate school and Katie in Kindergarten at the Elementary.  The next year we'll have one in every school.  High, Middle, Intermediate and Elementary.  That ought to be fun.

Katie is excited to start school but we are still waiting to find out if she'll go all day kindergarten or half day.  75% of the kids will be all day.  82% of the children requested all day.  So some children will not be all day.  They said they are trying to find the ones that "need" the most help.  Katie tested really well and probably doesn't "need" the all day...so we'll see.  One of my best friends is the all day kindergarten teacher and we wanted to be in her class though so we are fighting for her.  Bryce had her and did really well.

We had a nice lazy weekend.  Went to grandma's for a BBQ on Monday which was really nice.

We haven't spent too much time considering what to do this summer -- thought about buying a pool for the back yard...not sure we want the expense or the hassle.  We are coming up to Logan the week of June 13 (AJ will be there from Sunday to Thursday.  We'll probably come up and stay a day or two like we did last year.  We haven't really had time to look into motels and planning or anything yet.

Katie just started piano yesterday.  She was SO excited.  Dallas' teacher agreed to take her on.  She may be too young so this is just a trial thing to see if she likes it.  My neighbor lent us her old piano books so for now we are good to go.  Dallas continues to LOVE piano and actually practices quite a bit.  Especially when it's time to do his dishes...tee hee.

Cub scouts are done for the summer - actually we are done completely (if I could just get released now...)  Bryce will turn 11 next month and then me and another lady want to get together and work on some merit badges with our boys.  I wanted to wait for Bryce so I don't have to do everything over and over and over!!!!  I may start first part of June and just not pass him off until after his b-day.  We are getting close enough now!  Several years ago we did about 1 merit badge a week with AJ and he was able to really get a lot accomplished -- plus it gave him "something" to do every morning rather than just play video games.

Dallas and maybe AJ will go to Thunder Ridge for a week some time this summer for scout camp too.

Aj has youth conference and football camp going on the next two weeks and ortho appt and dentist appts.  That boy needs a license.  Right now he is doing 2 a day foot ball camp.  6-8 a.m. and 6-8 p.m. every day practice.  I don't get what he sees in this football crap.  He had to pay $360 this week of his own $$ and sold 30 dixie direct cards to get it and then his coach is making him sell 15 pine view cards too.  Everybody is going to really start avoiding us!!!!!!

Your drama camp sounds like it could be lots of fun (and lots of work).  Sounds like something that might have happened "back in the day."  Seems like everybody is too busy to do that kind of stuff now.  I bet if you check the library or online you can find some cute plays.  What are you thinking...the little red hen?  The wizard of oz?  Are you wanting to do acting and singing?  Is this going to be at your house?  Are you going to get scenery?  You could really keep the kids busy with some card board boxes and lots of paint...!!!!  Our back yard would be perfect for that -- basketball court would make a great stage.  Course it's too hot to do anything out there this time of year.

We would like to go somewhere this year (besides Logan) but we have just been so busy we haven't had time to sit and talk and plan anything.  I would like to go rent a cabin for a day or two or go to the grand canyon or something.  With the price of gas and the pain of traveling with kids we don't want to GO too far but we do want to have some fun memory.  Colorado and New Jersey were really fun the last couple of years.  I would actually love to go back to the same place we stayed in Colorado 2 years ago -- it was awesome accommodations -- but it was a 10 hour drive.

So there you have it.  We don't know and it'll probably be over before we know it!

06/14/25 Pre-Yellowstone

Last year for Christmas I purchased a vacation to Yellowstone for the kids and us. The dates for the Yellowstone cabin were June 16-June 20. We decided to break the trip up a little and drive up the weekend before and drive home the weekend after. Also, because Katie got married, and Dallas has limited time off, he was unable to take his family on the trip. We stayed at his house and got some twin time in before we continued north.  Aspen and John moved to Pennsylvania and are in Utah for the summer. On our way up north we stopped at Becky's house to see them and their sweet new baby.  Erik recently got a new job so he was also not able to join us on our trip. Holly became our little girl again and traveled with us.  Holly and Millie My dad's been in the care center so we stopped by to visit him. He's being well cared for. He is struggling to put sentences together. We came and went to church with him at the care center. He's been asking for a really good pizza. So we w...

06/16/25-06/20/25 Yellowstone

We had a really great week on our Yellowstone trip. We stayed at a VRBO cabin in a remote cabin in Ashton, Idaho. It was just right for our group. We were able to go to Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Mesa Falls, the Yellowstone Playhouse, Lava Hot Springs Pools and Slides.  We drove lots, played games, did puzzles, roasted hot dogs, made s'mores, enjoyed picnic lunches, ice cream at the frost top, dinners together made by each lil family and so much more.  Loved it! (There are lots more pictures in our shared Yellowstone google album. Also, these pictures are not in order of happening. )

08/20/25 Max out of pocket reached early again...hospital here we come

As is customary, within 7-10 days from returning from a trip we go to the hospital.  We stayed out of the ocean -- while we were in the Bahamas -- in order to keep Andy healthy. (We have determined that he has been getting infections through his swollen legs or cuts on his feet.)  Andy did not get infection from being naughty! haha BUT he somehow picked up COVID!  What the heck?! On Sunday last week (Aug 10) he started having a scratchy throat, voice. It got worse and most of last week he had laryngitis.  That resolved itself and he was feeling pretty fine. We had a full Wednesday. Around 9 p.m. he said he was feeling a little funky/woozy, whatever. Off?!   We went to bed and his temperature reading was still below normal but he was having body aches and shivering. We tried to sleep but he was clearly in pain and tossing and turning.  About 1:00 a.m. I got up and checked his temperature...100. Hmm. I looked at his legs and it looked like he might possi...
