03/18/12 Traveling kids: Disney & Grandma's houe

3/18/12 Holly & Katie love each other! Well the week has flown by again.  The boys went to Disney and had a great time.  I don't think they spent much time actually sleeping.  They came home Friday night and both said they might have slept 2 hours on the bus. Maybe.  They got home at 7 a.m. Friday morning and went right to bed.  I think they came out about 2 p.m.  Aaaah.  Ashley Brimhall also went on the trip.  Her mom posted that she got up at 5:30 p.m. Yes, a great trip! Bryce got put in as President of the Teachers Quorum today.  So we have 3 presidents in the house right now. Bryce went to the Stake Dance last night.  He really enjoys those.  Especially since he gets to see that one girl from Desert Hills that he is sweet on.  He is a funny kid. The girls spent Tuesday night and Wednesday at Grandma's house with Emma.  Far as I can tell the girls had a blast.  Emma and family have moved...

03/11/12 Long week -- busy work & illness

3/11/12 Well this has been a long hard week!  Nothing really bad...just seemed like extra busy and hard and tired! Kathy's husband (my helper at work) went into the hopsital last Thursday.  So she has been pretty much gone for 7 working days now.  He has been really sick.  I haven't heard an update so I guess no news is good news at this point.  He will probably make it but he has been so sick he might have preferred the alternative several of the days! My volunteer worker went to Colorodo last weekend and caught the gamboo...so she didn't come in on Monday.  She usually spends about 3 hours and enters all my new citations in the computer. My community service worker also got the gamboo and called out.  The 2 hours she was in the office on Wednesday she was hacking and sneezing and politely asked her if she didn't want to go home ... NOW ... and thanks for coming yada yada. So that left me on my own like the good ol days.....

03/04/12 Stake Conference

3/4/12 Just finished Stake Conference.  Pres Ellsworth did a great job as always.  Nick Bassett got called out of the audience.  Poor guy.  He did great though.  The theme was feast upon the words of the scriptures and follow the commandments and everything will be ok.  Sister Jordan (Dave's daughter Anna) recently returned from New Mexico and gave a great talk.  She is pretty and a good speaker. Busy week again.  Last night I took the girls to Dixie College to watch the Fiddler on the Roof for girlscouts.  That is one dang long show.  3 hours.  Geesh.  Guess we got our $5 worth and then some.   The actors and actresses did a good job but I wouldn't have minded the sweetend condeneced version! They boys have been spending lots of time with the band getting ready for different performances.  In about 2 weeks they head to Disneyland with the band.  Should be pretty fun. For YW this week we ...

2/26/12 Earning money for the band trip

2/26/12 Hey AJ! I can't believe it's Sunday again!  This week has been incredibly busy.  Dad has been doing basketball playoffs (they were here for once, which was great!) so he's been gone ALL THE TIME!  I had my YW and court and we did special needs mutual Thursday night.  So between the two of us we saw each other Monday and Friday  and then Sat night.  Bogus! The boys had a couple of little blessings while earning their money for the band trip.  Initially they were told they had to earn $450 each.  SO $900 was their goal.  Mr. Canland got some "deals" and was able to reduce the price to $350 each.  Which is pretty major.  Then the boys got the job working for Dr. Hagan.  He told them he would pay them $150 for doing his yard.  They worked at it all through the "leaf" season.  When it was over they went to tell him they had completed the job and he paid them $200!  Then they were selling Dixie D...

02/05/12 Superbowl Sunday & dance central

2/5/12 Hey, Superbowl Sunday...so you know what that means?!  Too much junk in the house!  Don't think anybody is coming over though.  Too bad.  Gma and pa aren't feeling well (colds) and Neal and Cheryls' kids are coming to their place and we didn't ask anybody else.  So just us Griffin's at the party today! We made meatballs and homemade bread, chicken -- Tso something or other?!, velveeta dip, oatmeal fudge cookie bars and sugar cookies.  I dunno what else.  Just junk!  The kids are excited to pig out. (and watch commercials).  Yeah. New Beginnings was a HUGE success.  13 girls!!!  (3 newbies and 10 of the usuals) and parents and all my presidency and teacher and bishopric member and just a packed room!  I was very happy for such great turnout and success!  I had to talk and then my presidency put on a play that was really cute about using the personal progress book, strength of youth and scriptures to m...

01/29/12 EFY & talent show

Beautiful sunset 1/29/12 Wow -- busy great week! We went to EFY yesterday.  There was about 6 boys and 6 girls.  The boys were pretty disappointed in their turnout (they thought they would have 12 kids) but I was happy with the YW -- I thought 5 and got 6!  And in chruch today we had 7!!!  Only had 2 missing Laurels and one of them was out of town.  Not sure where the other one was but that's about the best turnout ever.  Pres Ellsworth spoke and he did a really great job, as usual.  He really connects well with the youth. The talks we had were on Laughing (Enjoying life), Law of Chastity and Arise and shine forth.  I will have to type up the Law of Chastity talk notes I have sometime and send those to you.  Really great talk (not that I think you need it -- you were always good at following the rules) but it might be a good talk for you to give out in the mission field if the opportunity arises. After EFY the kids came ...

01/23/12 Kalua Pork Recipe

1/23/12 ONE OF OUR FAVORITE MEALS: Kalua Pork, Yumm! Get a pork roast (we usually get about 3 lb roast). Mix together equal parts of salsa and brown sugar.  (1 cup salsa with 1 cup brown sugar for example).  Pour mixture over the roast BEFORE you cook it.  Leave it alone and so many hours later,  ummmm ... like candied meat.  No wonder it's so good, eh?! Cook it for 6-8 hours on really low heat.  Crock pot on low (about 200 degrees I think). I don't know if you can make this due to you not having an oven or a crock pot or anything cool like that.  But this is actually really easy to do if you want to pass it on to Sis C.  Maybe she can cook it for you. Also the tortillas that I make are also very easy...Just flour, baking soda, water, shortening...something like that.  Any recipe off the internet would work.  Let me know if you want one of those too.  (Much easier to just buy tortillas but t...
