08/21/95 Journal Entry Preparing for Aj's 4th birthday, loving my baby Dallas, Andy working all the time

8/21/95

We still haven't heard about our new place in Hurricane. They said it will probably be another week before we can close.  That would be AJ's 4th birthday.  We don't want to move then!

AJ is really excited for his birthday.  He wants to go to Fiesta Fun (we're going Saturday for Andy's work picnic), McDonald's for a burger (probably Monday at lunch and we'll take Taylor) and get his big new bike.  We'll probably have to find a used bike for him or do something else. A new one costs about $65-$75 at Walmart.

AJ loves yellow.  He started to love yellow at about 2 and colors all his pictures at church all yellow.  It's really cute and easy to find things he likes!  I never really realized kids got preferences in color so early in life.

Dallas is really cute.  He is getting pretty good at getting around.  Still crawls better backward then forward.  He can sit unassisted for short periods of time. He loves to hold your hands and stand up.  He had apple sauce yesterday and bananas today for his first time.  REALLY likes bananas. And apple juice w/cereal.  He has a beautiful smile that he uses more often lately.

Tonight I tried to get him to sleep by himself. He cried for 15 minutes.  I went and got him and held him for less than 1 minute and he was out. I should enjoy just holding him every night and not try to make him grow up!  I rock him to sleep every time now.

Poor Andy's been working w/o a night off for 1.5 weeks now.  That's not so bad except he still doesn't know if or when a new editor will come in.  He worked 70 hours M-F last week.  not only did he do his job, and the assistants but he also put out a tab. He got home at 8 a.m. Wednesday -- worked 2-5 p.m. and 7p-7a -- an all nighter!  YUCK!  Hopefully once this other position is filled he'll just work 40 hours a week and feel a little more human.

Our ward here seems fickle.  Not really dedicated. Relief Society usually only has 10-15 sisters.  I was called to be RS pianist in December 94 and have really loved my calling.  It has made me practice and get better and not be afraid.  I have really enjoyed not having a big audience and being about to say, oh well, just a few people heard me screw up!  I hope I continue to practice and play in our next ward.  I never played for people before this and it was a real growing experience for me.  Someday I want to be good enough to play in front of sacrament meeting and not mess up!  I would love to be the temple organist and get to just practice in the peaceful chapel for an hour or two once or twice a week. It is so peaceful there.

I finally have my whole temple outfit now and my recommend expired!  Need to go get a new one but I hate doing the interviews.  Told Andy I better start going or die (you know your buried in your clothes -- we need to put them to use!)  Think I'd rather go to the temple!  I'm only 26 - I hope I have a few decades left yet!

01/12/26 Just a couple of things going on

Every Monday night we do family night pizza. This has included Eldon and Diane for quite awhile now. They left on a round the world cruise and will be gone from January - May. So we sent them a pic of these two cuties and told them we missed them.  Found this fun scratch off -- you can mark everywhere you've been. We want to travel in our retirement and thought this would be a fun way to keep track of it. (We also have a world map but I think 1 on the wall is enough).  SO this is our little inspiration wall to remind us to get out and see the world! Holly painted this picture on her wall a couple of years ago. I added some words and music notes in vinyl to it. I'm working on turning her bedroom into my music sanctuary.  The WELCOME pineapple sign was starting to peel off. I took off all the vinyl and painted the words instead. Gave it a nice refresh! We signed up for classes at the college too -- currently we are taking World travel, AI (artificial intelligence), Aging an...

01/13/26 How Many Cookies?!?!?

I planned to visit Washington City and go to the ladies luncheon (they do it monthly on shut off day). I found a new recipe that included putting smashed pretzels in the mix. (I had smashed pretzel, cereal mixture leftover from Christmas).  The recipe said it would make 22 cookies. I figured I would triple it and have 66.  Welp...they must have been some BIG cookies they were making...cause I got 126 cookies!!!!  What the heck?! I backed 24 of them and put the rest in the freezer. Someone will have a nice treat another day!

08/23/25 Organ

The Washington First Ward Building was sold to the City of Washington. Part of my responsibilities included dispensing of the organ and pianos in the building (along with other things).  It is an Allen, approximately 1970s.  I put the organ up on the auction. There were a couple of other people that were bidding on it, but I ultimately won the bid (for under $100). On the day I won the bid I was able to arrange a mover!!! I paid $250 to have someone from the piano store move it to our house (I have no idea how he managed to get that into the back bedroom....but he did it!!!) Then, it wouldn't work. 😭 I waited for approximately 6 weeks before a guy (who had to be 80 years old) came down from SLC and repaired the organ. (So the organ wasn't actually broken, it had to do with the electricity and the house talking nicely to one another.) It took him a couple of hours to figure it out. He charged about $200 and voila! I have a working church organ.  Cool, eh?  Now, I got...
