06/24/12 Tuacahn, cleaning and new job

6/24/12

It's been a good week staying busy.

Girls Camp preparations are coming along.  We leave Wednesday morning.  We will have 14 girls if all come who said they would. I heard last night that one of the girls is getting baptized next Saturday.  I am really surprised and not sure it is true.  We'll see.  Her brother did just get baptized last week so it could be.

Bryce's birthday is Tuesday, so I told him his birthday starts today!  Since I won't see him much on his birthday.  His driver's ed teacher didn't call and didn't call and then he called and we had like no time left.  So Bryce had to drive 4 hours Saturday, he'll drive 4 hours Monday and 3 hours Tuesday morning.  Then at lunch time we'll go get him his driver license.  (Not right when it opens as is tradition.  Oh well.)  He didn't seem to care but if he doesn't get his license right away we'll have to pay $15 extra because his permit expires.  That helped motivate him a little.  He is way less excited about getting a license than I am about him getting a license.  He's still kind of timid about driving.  I guess he hasn't gotten out as much as you and Dallas did.  Dallas takes him everywhere instead of me so he really doesn't have many opportunities.  Might have to continue driving with him for a little while.

We went to Tuacahn Thursday night with Neil and Cheryl and saw the musical Hairspray.  We went to Red Robin first for dinner and then over to the play.  It was pretty fun except that it was still at least 90 degrees at 11 p.m.  It was SO hot!!!!  I was even uncomfortable!  I got free tickets from work.  They are usually $30-$40 each.  Wow, huh?!  Cheryl was pretty excited.  They have been saving to go to Maryland this year to visit their kid and didn't think they'd get to go to any plays.

Yesterday we performed a deep clean of our bedroom.  It took all afternoon.  Ugh.  We got rid of several boxes of books and put all the utahpreps equipment away and out of sight.  The business is officially sold.  We need to scrape the windows off the cars now too.  Got rid of all the posters and stuff.  Lot of stuff.  After we were done I looked in the closet and just sighed.  That's another days work.  One day at a time, right?!

Dad's been working lots with his new website.  Maybe a little more than he thought he would be.  Hopefully once things settle down he won't be working quite so much.

Today is stake conference so we are getting ready to head over to that in a few.  We had the sharp kids and the Riley kids over last night during the evening session.  I wasn't done all my cleanup/out projects yet so I didn't even try to get over to that session.  The kids had fun playing though.

The boys are starting a mission prep class tonight that is every other week over at the Telegraph chapel from 6-7 p.m. So we are going to try to get up to Gma and pa's earlier and get them back for that.  See how they like it.

Well, that pretty much wraps up the week in review here.  Nothing too exciting.

Oh yea, by the way LOVED your letter home last week.  That was so thoughtful and nice.  What a great reward -- really was awesome!

Any requests for your birthday box?  It's getting to be about time to throw that together and ship it off.  In a week or two anyway.  XOXO mom

01/12/26 Just a couple of things going on

Every Monday night we do family night pizza. This has included Eldon and Diane for quite awhile now. They left on a round the world cruise and will be gone from January - May. So we sent them a pic of these two cuties and told them we missed them.  Found this fun scratch off -- you can mark everywhere you've been. We want to travel in our retirement and thought this would be a fun way to keep track of it. (We also have a world map but I think 1 on the wall is enough).  SO this is our little inspiration wall to remind us to get out and see the world! Holly painted this picture on her wall a couple of years ago. I added some words and music notes in vinyl to it. I'm working on turning her bedroom into my music sanctuary.  The WELCOME pineapple sign was starting to peel off. I took off all the vinyl and painted the words instead. Gave it a nice refresh! We signed up for classes at the college too -- currently we are taking World travel, AI (artificial intelligence), Aging an...

01/13/26 How Many Cookies?!?!?

I planned to visit Washington City and go to the ladies luncheon (they do it monthly on shut off day). I found a new recipe that included putting smashed pretzels in the mix. (I had smashed pretzel, cereal mixture leftover from Christmas).  The recipe said it would make 22 cookies. I figured I would triple it and have 66.  Welp...they must have been some BIG cookies they were making...cause I got 126 cookies!!!!  What the heck?! I backed 24 of them and put the rest in the freezer. Someone will have a nice treat another day!

08/23/25 Organ

The Washington First Ward Building was sold to the City of Washington. Part of my responsibilities included dispensing of the organ and pianos in the building (along with other things).  It is an Allen, approximately 1970s.  I put the organ up on the auction. There were a couple of other people that were bidding on it, but I ultimately won the bid (for under $100). On the day I won the bid I was able to arrange a mover!!! I paid $250 to have someone from the piano store move it to our house (I have no idea how he managed to get that into the back bedroom....but he did it!!!) Then, it wouldn't work. 😭 I waited for approximately 6 weeks before a guy (who had to be 80 years old) came down from SLC and repaired the organ. (So the organ wasn't actually broken, it had to do with the electricity and the house talking nicely to one another.) It took him a couple of hours to figure it out. He charged about $200 and voila! I have a working church organ.  Cool, eh?  Now, I got...
