11/30/14 Cookies and Pie Party

11/30/14

How was your week? Did you get the sweaters from grandma and the box we sent? Grandma has been worried it got to you so be sure to send her a little note and let her know!

How was your Turkey Day? Did you get double or triple stuffed?

We have had a nice week.  The beginning was super busy with work but since I was at work until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday I got off at noon on Wednesday and was off the rest of the week.  I think that's the longest time I've had off and stayed home and just really enjoyed some days off!

Wednesday after work we went to the new buffet in the mall...the pizza pie cafe...the same place we ate at in Provo when we dropped you off to the MTC.  It was nostalgic as we thought of you!!! (Hugs!!! I love you!!!)  It seems to be a pretty popular place and was pretty busy and hopping.  It was good and not too expensive too.  We'll go back.

Then we went to Grandma and Grandpa's house and helped them with getting things ready for Thanksgiving.  She had some things to do that were hard for her old fingers (tying up the napkins with silverware inside).  I know we did some other stuff but I can't remember what it was.

Thursday the boys did the 8th Ward Turkey Bowl.  Dinner was early, noon this year.  So we didn't do a lot in the morning.  Just heated up our dishes, went for a walk and went over. The crowd wasn't as big as it has been some years although we still had almost 30.

Afterward we went to Ben and Laura's and played ping-pong.  I think Dad won the tournament again.  Him and Ben were the 1st and 2nd place.  I got out on the first round by AJ's friend Keeton who came and spent a couple days at our house.  Bummer!!!

Box sent to Elder Griffin for
Turkey day!
Thursday evening they watched Dallas lose (bummer again) and we just hung out and chilled.  Lots of good left overs.

Friday the Riley mom and twins came over and we made 6 batches of cookies and 2 batches of peanut butter balls. (sorry for reminding you!!!)  (They took 4 cookies, 1 pb ball -- they were making neighbor gifts).  I was going to give some of the treats out but I think they are just going to get eaten 'cause I wasn't quick enough putting them away.  Haha.  Plus if just feels a little too early to be taking Christmas treats around to me. SO I didn't really wanna!

Afterward we took the girls for a 2 mile walk.  Grandma and pa needed more help -- moving furniture. getting their tree out.  decorating.  So we went to Bishop's for lunch (Katie, AJ, Dad, me and gma and pa)  Holly went to play. Then we spent a couple of hours getting them ready for Christmas.

Friday evening was a pie party.  I LOVE IT!!! What a cute idea.  Sister Long invites over a bunch of people from the ward and she had a fire in her yard and lawn chairs and cider and everybody shares leftover pies (don't need to bring a whole one) and mingles.  It was fun and a super easy party to host too since everybody just brings all the treats they already had too many of!

Aj and Katie went to the temple together afterward and did baptisms. Aj was totally taking over the role of favorite brother ...he has been teaching her to play guitar, they played board games all afternoon and they went to the temple and got ice cream afterward.  And then he teased her at dinner last night and he's right back in the basement.  3rd place brother!  Hahaha.

Saturday was another beautiful day (it's been 70 degrees and sunny every day this week!!!) and so I went for a 6 mile hike.  Then came back and dad smoked a turkey and I boiled potatoes and made rolls for a yummy dinner Saturday night.  All afternoon the boys went and watched BYU (had to go out we didn't get the channel...AJ and Dad, Dallas was working).  The girls spent the day at the Wrights painting things for the ward christmas party.  The wright's are in charge so it's gonna be amazing.  Seriously.

Marlee will be coming by today as she and AJ are getting a ride up to Provo together.  I don't think I'll get to see her though because they are meeting their ride in Toquerville at 4 and I will be playing for primary.

Dad and I are speaking today. I'll have to mail you our talks so you have time to read them if you want to.

I hope you are finding fun things to do and not missing us too bad.

Love you and so thankful for you and your example.  You are amazing!!! I love you! Love, mom.

06/14/25 Pre-Yellowstone

Last year for Christmas I purchased a vacation to Yellowstone for the kids and us. The dates for the Yellowstone cabin were June 16-June 20. We decided to break the trip up a little and drive up the weekend before and drive home the weekend after. Also, because Katie got married, and Dallas has limited time off, he was unable to take his family on the trip. We stayed at his house and got some twin time in before we continued north.  Aspen and John moved to Pennsylvania and are in Utah for the summer. On our way up north we stopped at Becky's house to see them and their sweet new baby.  Erik recently got a new job so he was also not able to join us on our trip. Holly became our little girl again and traveled with us.  Holly and Millie My dad's been in the care center so we stopped by to visit him. He's being well cared for. He is struggling to put sentences together. We came and went to church with him at the care center. He's been asking for a really good pizza. So we w...

07/10/2025 Dad's Passing

Dad's stay at the care center ended up being 35 days. He had a care giver that really connected with him named Michael. Michael cared for him when he was living at home and then came out a couple of times to the care center before he died. He really appreciated those visits and lit up when Michael came to visit and help care for him. I'm thankful that I was able to see him the two weekends about two weeks before he died. He was still able to smile and sit and eat at that time. I'm so glad that Ruth and Becky were able to take the time and spend quite a bit of time with him the last couple of weeks before he died. His condition continued to deteriorate and it was not easy to see him that way and spend so much time there. But my sisters and Suzanne did what they could to make him comfortable at the end.  He was found dead in his bed on the morning of July 10. Rest in peace, Dad. I love you!

06/16/25-06/20/25 Yellowstone

We had a really great week on our Yellowstone trip. We stayed at a VRBO cabin in a remote cabin in Ashton, Idaho. It was just right for our group. We were able to go to Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Mesa Falls, the Yellowstone Playhouse, Lava Hot Springs Pools and Slides.  We drove lots, played games, did puzzles, roasted hot dogs, made s'mores, enjoyed picnic lunches, ice cream at the frost top, dinners together made by each lil family and so much more.  Loved it! (There are lots more pictures in our shared Yellowstone google album. Also, these pictures are not in order of happening. )
