07/11/18 - 07/14/18 Brian Head Trip

In October this year we will celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary.  This week the girls were both at camps so we decided to have a little getaway to Brian Head. Andy is just about 7 weeks out from surgery so we knew we couldn't do much (he's still on major restrictions, pretty much only allowed to walk, not much else!)
So we decided to go somewhere close, cozy, quiet and fun.
The weather didn't really cooperate with us but we didn't mind. We drove up Wednesday and stopped at the Porkbelly BBQ joint for lunch. We ran into Jan and Andy Hunsaker (8th ward friends from YEARS ago!!!)  It was fun to visit with them for a few minutes.
Then we headed up Cedar Mountain. There was construction so we got to sit and wait in the canyon for 20 minutes or so.
We swam and went in the hot tub every day while we were there. They have a very nice facilities at Cedar Breaks Lodge.
Thursday we went down Parawan Canyon and stopped at Hidden Falls hike.  There were signs that there was water damage and we found the trails to be washed out and not real good for Andy. So after almost a mile in (we were so ALMOST there!!!) we gave up and turned around. Bummer!

We drove to Yankee Meadows Lake but the road was washed out in several areas on the way up and the thunder was rumbling so we figured we'd better get out before we got stuck back in there. So we didn't stay long!

We went on into Parawan at ate at Calvario's Mexican restaurant. We loved it! A new favorite! Inexpensive and tasty! We can't wait to go back. We also found a bakery just a couple doors down and got some yummy treats there too!
We watched the proposal and hung out until late.
Friday we took the lift up to the top of the mountain at Brian Head and then got off and hiked the 3 miles down the mountain. In a thunder/rain storm. The weather man said Friday was supposed to be sunny and nice. Huh. It was a fun adventure. About half way down a man in a truck asked if we were ok or if we needed a ride down. We decided to keep going.  Probably too long of a walk for Andy but he did it - conquered the mountain!
We were pretty tired after our adventure and got pizza and nachos from the cedar breaks lodge restaurant -- take out -- and watched Jurassic World.
Saturday morning we had to be out fairly early - 10 a.m. We went down through Parowan Canyon to Cedar City. We wanted to go to the car show however it didn't start until 3 p.m. Wah.  So we just walked through the renaissance fair and booths and then headed home.
It was a very relaxing nice getaway.

On our way to Hidden Falls

Mud Slides had wiped out portions of the trail

More mud slides. Very difficult to walk through

Thunder and Rain were plentiful!

Stop light in the canyon...strange!

Lift up Brian Head Mountain

The weather looked promising...

Lift stopped for a little while.  It doesn't look far down. But it was!!!

Shortly after getting off lift the storm moved in.

This little fellow was calling to us!

We conquered the mountain!

06/14/25 Pre-Yellowstone

Last year for Christmas I purchased a vacation to Yellowstone for the kids and us. The dates for the Yellowstone cabin were June 16-June 20. We decided to break the trip up a little and drive up the weekend before and drive home the weekend after. Also, because Katie got married, and Dallas has limited time off, he was unable to take his family on the trip. We stayed at his house and got some twin time in before we continued north.  Aspen and John moved to Pennsylvania and are in Utah for the summer. On our way up north we stopped at Becky's house to see them and their sweet new baby.  Erik recently got a new job so he was also not able to join us on our trip. Holly became our little girl again and traveled with us.  Holly and Millie My dad's been in the care center so we stopped by to visit him. He's being well cared for. He is struggling to put sentences together. We came and went to church with him at the care center. He's been asking for a really good pizza. So we w...

06/16/25-06/20/25 Yellowstone

We had a really great week on our Yellowstone trip. We stayed at a VRBO cabin in a remote cabin in Ashton, Idaho. It was just right for our group. We were able to go to Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Mesa Falls, the Yellowstone Playhouse, Lava Hot Springs Pools and Slides.  We drove lots, played games, did puzzles, roasted hot dogs, made s'mores, enjoyed picnic lunches, ice cream at the frost top, dinners together made by each lil family and so much more.  Loved it! (There are lots more pictures in our shared Yellowstone google album. Also, these pictures are not in order of happening. )

08/20/25 Max out of pocket reached early again...hospital here we come

As is customary, within 7-10 days from returning from a trip we go to the hospital.  We stayed out of the ocean -- while we were in the Bahamas -- in order to keep Andy healthy. (We have determined that he has been getting infections through his swollen legs or cuts on his feet.)  Andy did not get infection from being naughty! haha BUT he somehow picked up COVID!  What the heck?! On Sunday last week (Aug 10) he started having a scratchy throat, voice. It got worse and most of last week he had laryngitis.  That resolved itself and he was feeling pretty fine. We had a full Wednesday. Around 9 p.m. he said he was feeling a little funky/woozy, whatever. Off?!   We went to bed and his temperature reading was still below normal but he was having body aches and shivering. We tried to sleep but he was clearly in pain and tossing and turning.  About 1:00 a.m. I got up and checked his temperature...100. Hmm. I looked at his legs and it looked like he might possi...
