11/14/22 Whirlwind of a week! And good news...we all survived the week!

Whirlwind of a week. Started out with the usual family dinner Sunday and pizza night Monday. On Tuesday dad covered elections all night long!  And I stayed home and started working on pomegranates for jelly Wednesday night with the YW. There were so.many.pomegranates! It took HOURS!

I bought an electric juicer thinking that would help. But it didn't. When I put the whole pomegranate with the shell in...it tasted like...shell.  Ewe!  And when I seeded them and then squished them it did beautiful but it was so. much work!!!! oy!

So hand squish it was.

The YW made a batch of jelly and got to take home all the jellies we made from that batch. During the evening we had gone out for dinner first with B&L and Gpa and dad started spiking a fever. He didn't eat dinner and was shaking so I knew he was getting sick again. I tried to call and get him a telehealth appointment but they refused to see him and said to take him to the hospital. Being stubborn and knowing we had caught it early we searched high and low and found three antibiotic pills and started him on pills. Got him through to Wednesday when we could see Dr. Carter.

Dr. Carter confirmed infection and gave him an antibiotic shot and a double dose of oral antibiotics and he was dragging along and starting to feel a little better.

Friday morning was the Veteran's Parade and presentation. What a great event!  We had almost 100 veterans and their plus one and just had a really special event where they were honored and presented with medals and certificates. My day off actually lasted about 6 hours of work but it was very rewarding and just a great experience.

I got off work after 2 p.m. and tried to get hold of gpa Griffin but he didn't answer.  I didn't think too much of it and waiting 2 hours. Again I called and texted and nothing. Our tracker showed he went to E&D's house and was on his way home or at home already. Finally Diane called and said she was taking Gpa to the ER because he was slurring his words really bad and his left side was kinda droopy.

We were on our way to test drive a Maverick truck when they called. So we quickly got in the truck to get a feel for it and then headed over to the hospital, with no dinner yet...we were trying to connect with Gpa for dinner.

Gpa was already back in a room (you know it's serious stuff when they take care of you immediately upon entry!) but he was already showing great improvement. He had very high blood pressure (dr said that was normal and good...his body was fighting) and they confirmed he had a mini-stroke. They gave him some blood thinners and a bed for the night. He got a cat scan, MRI and some tests on his heart. They sent him home Saturday with some prescription medication and he seems as good as new!  WOW right?!

He did have a little fall (missed his bed when climbing in) but he seems to be very much on the mend. He's super grandpa.

Meanwhile, we had arranged to purchase a new vehicle up by Grandpa Laurito's house at the automall up there. So early Saturday morning we headed north. We picked up AJ in Santaquin and drove to B&M's house. AJ took our van home for us (he had stuff he wanted to do here in St. George). B&M drove us to the dealership and dropped us off. Two hours later we had purchased dad a new truck. It's very nice and I'm pretty sure he loves it!

After we finished truck stopping we met at Scheels and walked the mall. Then Dad and I stopped at Gpa Laurito's and said hi really quick. He had a cold/cough so we didn't get together with him and everyone since we have pregnant girls and babies.

Then we went to D&Ks house and hung out, went to dinner, hung out some more. Did the WINCO thing and then collapsed in bed at Bryce's house. Got up early this morning and headed back down the road to home.

We had lunch at Carnevale's with Hamers and Sister Boone (her husband died recently) and it was fun to see them. The Hamers have been doing the camp host thing all over (TX, Colorado, AZ, etc) and after three years they bought a condo and settled in Mesquite. They look just the same as I remember them!  They are cute as ever.

Tonight we have Gpa and E&D coming for dinner in just a couple of minutes. So yeah, whirlwind!

That's a slinky on his foot, not a broken foot!
I'm so thankful that we've been blessed to still have our boys in our life (Andy and Rod!!!) -- life is fragile and I am thankful for everyday.

We didn't make it to church today so we listened to some podcast in the car. The lesson was on Hosea. 1. God is faithful to his people even when they are unfaithful. 2. God disciplines his people when they are unfaithful. 3. God has a deep affection for his people.

We serve a God of love and a God of wrath. Our God is full of compassion and he loves you deeply. If you are upright and walk with the Lord you will do well. If you decide to be sinful, you will stumble.

Be wise and discerning and walk upright all your days.

I'm so proud of you for the sacrifices you are making. You will be blessed all the days of your life for your service. I am inspired by you and hope to be as good and faithful as you are.

Don't worry about the boys here...I'll keep taking care of them!

Love you so much! mom

Bad weather coming home!

06/14/25 Pre-Yellowstone

Last year for Christmas I purchased a vacation to Yellowstone for the kids and us. The dates for the Yellowstone cabin were June 16-June 20. We decided to break the trip up a little and drive up the weekend before and drive home the weekend after. Also, because Katie got married, and Dallas has limited time off, he was unable to take his family on the trip. We stayed at his house and got some twin time in before we continued north.  Aspen and John moved to Pennsylvania and are in Utah for the summer. On our way up north we stopped at Becky's house to see them and their sweet new baby.  Erik recently got a new job so he was also not able to join us on our trip. Holly became our little girl again and traveled with us.  Holly and Millie My dad's been in the care center so we stopped by to visit him. He's being well cared for. He is struggling to put sentences together. We came and went to church with him at the care center. He's been asking for a really good pizza. So we w...

06/16/25-06/20/25 Yellowstone

We had a really great week on our Yellowstone trip. We stayed at a VRBO cabin in a remote cabin in Ashton, Idaho. It was just right for our group. We were able to go to Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Mesa Falls, the Yellowstone Playhouse, Lava Hot Springs Pools and Slides.  We drove lots, played games, did puzzles, roasted hot dogs, made s'mores, enjoyed picnic lunches, ice cream at the frost top, dinners together made by each lil family and so much more.  Loved it! (There are lots more pictures in our shared Yellowstone google album. Also, these pictures are not in order of happening. )

08/20/25 Max out of pocket reached early again...hospital here we come

As is customary, within 7-10 days from returning from a trip we go to the hospital.  We stayed out of the ocean -- while we were in the Bahamas -- in order to keep Andy healthy. (We have determined that he has been getting infections through his swollen legs or cuts on his feet.)  Andy did not get infection from being naughty! haha BUT he somehow picked up COVID!  What the heck?! On Sunday last week (Aug 10) he started having a scratchy throat, voice. It got worse and most of last week he had laryngitis.  That resolved itself and he was feeling pretty fine. We had a full Wednesday. Around 9 p.m. he said he was feeling a little funky/woozy, whatever. Off?!   We went to bed and his temperature reading was still below normal but he was having body aches and shivering. We tried to sleep but he was clearly in pain and tossing and turning.  About 1:00 a.m. I got up and checked his temperature...100. Hmm. I looked at his legs and it looked like he might possi...
