08/20/23 JFW- Jeremy Free Week

DJ, Bryce & Mo
Jeremy said one of his colleagues used to have an abbreviation similar to JFW when he was gone...so he changed it for himself. Last week there was electric meetings called UAMPS in Wyoming and he and some people from the power company went to Wyoming and so I had one less boss in the house!

Turned out to be a pretty busy week anyway! haha...I ordered signs for city hall several months ago and they finally came in!! Yeah!!! And got installed on Monday. (Which was what I was waiting for before putting the pictures back up in CIty Hall).  Tuesday our maintenance guy came over and suggested that all the pictures frames (which were dark wood and gold colored in a variety of textures) be painted black to better match the decor. He didn't have anyone that could do that currently but said over the next month or two we could get pictures done a couple at a time.

Well, you know me...that seemed like a long process -- so I just did it myself. There was approx 50 pictures. And these are heavy. Initially I went to Home Depot and just bought enough stuff to try it. I took 5 pictures home and worked on our back porch. They came out great. But hauling all those pictures back and forth seemed overwhelming plus I still had work to do at my office.

So, I set up a little workshop in my office and outside my office. It started out a little slow but I eventually got the hang of taping the pictures and I did two large batches. The first set was about 20 and the second batch about 25. I was able to get them all done before quitting time on Friday.

But that was a lot of up and down stairs this week!  (The pictures were stored in the basement that doesn't' have an elevator) so I had to bring each one up one or two at a time for safety reasons -- that staircase is long, narrow and a little scary with stuff!!!

Besides that project I had several little projects for Thad and emails that needed answers and just stuff from Jeremy because he was out of the office. Needless to say it was a fast full week of work. It was hard but I also enjoyed doing something different!  Several people said either -- Don't you have people who can do that?? OR Oh, you are so lucky, you get to craft at work! haha

Wednesday for YW we watched the WorldWide Youth Broadcast about art - it had music and then in between each song artwork done by our young people. There were tons of yummy treats (pizza, popcorn, oreos, yogurt pretzels) so the kids were pretty happy to sit and watch the video even though it might have been less well received without the goodies! The very first song was a group of kids from Chile riding a bus and then stopping and singing on the side of the road. Cool, eh!?

Dallas and Emory
Friday evening, Dad covered a game at Bingham High School (he went there as a kid for part of a year). Crimson played. They lost but dad said it was a good game anyway. Bryce and Marlee came up and we went and visited Dallas and Kayla and kids for a couple of hours. The traffic getting up was actually kind of slow so we intended to arrive at 5 but didn't actually arrive until almost 6:30. We stayed just a couple of hours and then headed back.

Yum!
Dad and I got a room at the Embassy Suites by Hilton -- nicest hotel we've stayed at in awhile! (I was able to get the government rate of $128 instead of the usual $250 rate they listed normally)  We want to stay there every time if possible. It was at 104000 S by the free way - so close to Laurito's, not too far from Dallas and on the way back to Bryce's.

Bryce and Mo at Wardle Park
My most favorite part -- the dude made killer omelets however you want them. So yummy!  Our room had 2 rooms - a living room/kitchenette and a bedroom. 2 TV. A very large & tall shower. There was a large pool and hot tub (which we didn't have time to use sadly) and a gym with lots of equipment.  Will definitely choose them again if I can get the lower rate.

Saturday we met everyone at Wardle Park with Chick - Fil - A and cupcakes for Marlee's birthday. We played from about noon - two. Ruth and Chris (her new boyfriend) and Ray and Suzanne came -- but not until 1:30 or so. Ruth and Chris went and played pickleball (we had seen them Friday night so we had visited) and Ray and Suzanne - by the time they walked from the car to the bench -- Dad was really not looking good. He sat and visited with me for a few minutes and then said he wanted to go home. It was pretty hot out at that point. I walked him back to the car -- he was complaining that his legs hurt. He really didn't look good at all. I told the kids we need to have him visit their house or we need to go to his house from now on. That was too much. I guess a restaurant would work as well.

We drove home and stopped in Beaver at the Creamery (cheese factory store) and got an ice cream. It was nice -- EXPENSIVE, but nice.  $10 for a waffle cone with 3 scoops. Which turns out is a lot of ice cream. We threw away some and ate more than we wanted to. But the 1 scoop was $8 so might as well?!  What happened to the $1 or $2 ice cream cones?!?! They do have a fun room the kids would enjoy with a big cow in it and fun facts on the wall. For sure a good place to stop in and check out at least once.

We're all home and settled now. Hurricane Hilary is hitting Mexico and then making its way up the states. Cedar City got flooded quite badly in the hospital and jail -- PRE-Hilary!!! So everyone is bracing for several bad days of monsoonal rain. We got some of it coming home but thankfully it was just the last 30 minutes and not the whole length of the state as it's supposed to be today.

Linda just cancelled me for our walk because it's rainy outside. So I'll have to decide if I want to walk alone or take the day off or find something else to do. We'll see!

My spiritual thought for the week - I feel the turmoil of the world -- and I know the peace that comes when your thoughts and deeds are in the right place. Everyone is challenging if the church is true or not and questioning doctrine and procedures etc etc...for me -- I have to keep reminding myself of when I feel truly at peace and happy. And it's when I'm listening to good music, performing service, reading uplifting books, listening to conferences, etc. So I need to just focus on following that and tone out the people that are trying to abolish that. It reminds me of the tall and spacious building and the people yelling at those holding the rod. It's real. It's happening. It's bothersome at times. But hold on and keep moving forward and try to ignore the noise and focus on the peaceful things and you can still find peace in this crazy world.

SO I guess my condensed thought is...Seek peace!

Holly and I have got to get together soon and get working on her plans. Things are starting to be real! Your transfers make me realize time more clearly!

Love you lots. You are amazing!!! Keep up the good works!

01/12/26 Just a couple of things going on

Every Monday night we do family night pizza. This has included Eldon and Diane for quite awhile now. They left on a round the world cruise and will be gone from January - May. So we sent them a pic of these two cuties and told them we missed them.  Found this fun scratch off -- you can mark everywhere you've been. We want to travel in our retirement and thought this would be a fun way to keep track of it. (We also have a world map but I think 1 on the wall is enough).  SO this is our little inspiration wall to remind us to get out and see the world! Holly painted this picture on her wall a couple of years ago. I added some words and music notes in vinyl to it. I'm working on turning her bedroom into my music sanctuary.  The WELCOME pineapple sign was starting to peel off. I took off all the vinyl and painted the words instead. Gave it a nice refresh! We signed up for classes at the college too -- currently we are taking World travel, AI (artificial intelligence), Aging an...

06/16/25-06/20/25 Yellowstone

We had a really great week on our Yellowstone trip. We stayed at a VRBO cabin in a remote cabin in Ashton, Idaho. It was just right for our group. We were able to go to Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Mesa Falls, the Yellowstone Playhouse, Lava Hot Springs Pools and Slides.  We drove lots, played games, did puzzles, roasted hot dogs, made s'mores, enjoyed picnic lunches, ice cream at the frost top, dinners together made by each lil family and so much more.  Loved it! (There are lots more pictures in our shared Yellowstone google album. Also, these pictures are not in order of happening. )

01/13/26 How Many Cookies?!?!?

I planned to visit Washington City and go to the ladies luncheon (they do it monthly on shut off day). I found a new recipe that included putting smashed pretzels in the mix. (I had smashed pretzel, cereal mixture leftover from Christmas).  The recipe said it would make 22 cookies. I figured I would triple it and have 66.  Welp...they must have been some BIG cookies they were making...cause I got 126 cookies!!!!  What the heck?! I backed 24 of them and put the rest in the freezer. Someone will have a nice treat another day!
