07/05/15 Park City Vacation

Gpa and Gma Griffin at the Heber Creeper

07/05/15

We are just minutes away from leaving park city and starting home.  We had a quick but fun week.

Doing a lil hiking!
July 1 - Wednesday - we headed here.  We drove all afternoon arriving in Orem about 4 p.m.  We stopped and shopped at WINCO grocery store before starting up toward Heber City. In Heber we stopped at Granny's for burgers and shakes and then went to Day's bakery for the donut dogs.  Grandma and pa were traveling about an hour behind us. They went to pizza with Ben and Laura while we unpacked.  We then met up over at B&L's condo for some swimming and hanging out.

Family at the Heber Creeper on 4th of July!
July 2 - Thursday - we had 2 shops to do -- Mojo's up by the alpine slide and the Eating Establishment in Park City on Main Street.  In between we took a drive to mirror lake. At mirror lake we took out some big tubes that we played on for about an hour. The dinner was a 60th anniversary party for gma and pa and B&L were there, Gma and pa, us (minus girls), wendy and eddy and all their kids plus friends minus Abby.  It was a pretty pricey dinner ... when I originally suggested it we were just going with B&L and things just kinda went crazy from there. Everybody paid their own -- we got mom and dad's. Our portion was $90.  I think Eddy's was close to $100 too.  B&L was probably $25-35.  Whew!  Afterward we went over to B&L's and had cake and ice cream and played 1955 trivia.

Dallas and McKayla on the Heber Creeper
July 3 - Friday - Gma and pa moved over from B&L's to our house.  Gma has been struggling with her oxygen and they hadn't slept well the night before (wendy and eddy and family also stayed at B&L's condo) so they didn't want to go anywhere. So we went on another drive and found cascade springs and a water fall called upper falls by bridle veil falls to hike to. The first was a long windy drive but an easy hike. The second hike was pretty taxing...right up the side of a mountain!  The reward was nice...beautiful water fall.  AJ joined us for the drive/hike.  We came home and Dallas and McK; gma and pa and the rest of us had BBQ courtesy of dad and swam in the pool here at the condo.

Riding the tram
July 4 - Saturday - got up super early 5:45 a.m. to meet the balloon for Gpa and AJ's balloon ride.  We met at the hotel at 6:30 a.m. and drove out to the launch site.  And then didn't launch.  The weather was a little tipsy.  The launch guy said it is better to be on the ground wishing you were up in the air then to be up in the air wishing you were on the ground.  He said he didn't have a good feeling about it and so there would be no launch.  So our balloon ride became a ride on the Heber Creeper freedom train with W&E, aaron, emma, Gma and pa, AJ, Dallas and McK,the girls and us. The train left the station at 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.  There was a fiddle playing girl that came on the cars and played songs -- 17 year old girl...she was awesome.  There was some kids about that same age that came through and sang and danced patriotic songs, they did some trivia and gpa even did some cowboy poetry. Our train was very energetic and fun (especially considering it was 8 a.m. !!!!) Gpa was free (veteran) and the rest of the family rode for $5 each...super great deal as the tickets are usually $25-$35 a head and we are all adults now cept Holly for another couple of months!

Aj and Katie on the Heber Creeper
Afterward we went to McD's for breakfast.  Then gma and pa went home.  wendy and Eddy went home.  We came back and everybody took a little siesta and then we swam.  We went up the  tram and walked around and had slurpees and then D and McK left.  We got pizza hut and Gma and pa L came for dinner and the girls watched Twilight.  We were all pretty tired and fire works were in town, not up on our hill like last year so we skipped it.

So this morning we are all packed up and heading out the door.  I'll try to get pictures to you when we got home.

It's raining pretty good here and supposed to be raining up and down the state!  Love you!!! Mom

Patriotic AJ!

01/12/26 Just a couple of things going on

Every Monday night we do family night pizza. This has included Eldon and Diane for quite awhile now. They left on a round the world cruise and will be gone from January - May. So we sent them a pic of these two cuties and told them we missed them.  Found this fun scratch off -- you can mark everywhere you've been. We want to travel in our retirement and thought this would be a fun way to keep track of it. (We also have a world map but I think 1 on the wall is enough).  SO this is our little inspiration wall to remind us to get out and see the world! Holly painted this picture on her wall a couple of years ago. I added some words and music notes in vinyl to it. I'm working on turning her bedroom into my music sanctuary.  The WELCOME pineapple sign was starting to peel off. I took off all the vinyl and painted the words instead. Gave it a nice refresh! We signed up for classes at the college too -- currently we are taking World travel, AI (artificial intelligence), Aging an...

01/13/26 How Many Cookies?!?!?

I planned to visit Washington City and go to the ladies luncheon (they do it monthly on shut off day). I found a new recipe that included putting smashed pretzels in the mix. (I had smashed pretzel, cereal mixture leftover from Christmas).  The recipe said it would make 22 cookies. I figured I would triple it and have 66.  Welp...they must have been some BIG cookies they were making...cause I got 126 cookies!!!!  What the heck?! I backed 24 of them and put the rest in the freezer. Someone will have a nice treat another day!

08/23/25 Organ

The Washington First Ward Building was sold to the City of Washington. Part of my responsibilities included dispensing of the organ and pianos in the building (along with other things).  It is an Allen, approximately 1970s.  I put the organ up on the auction. There were a couple of other people that were bidding on it, but I ultimately won the bid (for under $100). On the day I won the bid I was able to arrange a mover!!! I paid $250 to have someone from the piano store move it to our house (I have no idea how he managed to get that into the back bedroom....but he did it!!!) Then, it wouldn't work. 😭 I waited for approximately 6 weeks before a guy (who had to be 80 years old) came down from SLC and repaired the organ. (So the organ wasn't actually broken, it had to do with the electricity and the house talking nicely to one another.) It took him a couple of hours to figure it out. He charged about $200 and voila! I have a working church organ.  Cool, eh?  Now, I got...
