07/26/15 Grand Canyon, Pioneer Day & yummy cookies!

Andy's Angel's at the Grand Canyon
(We were pretending we were Charlie's Angels from the 1980s show)
07/26/15 Seems like it has been a busy week.

Sunday of course we went to Gma and pa's for dinner and the usual hang out.

Monday we went to Aunt Laura's house for family night.  She made cookies with Katie (Katie is doing a little mini class this coming Thursday and we wanted to get her some extra tips from the pro!)  We had pizza and peanut butter cookies.  Yummy of course.

Tuesday was the usual. Girls did volleyball, I worked. Seems like Dad might have had a story to cover...can't remember.

Wednesday we went to Dawn Wright's house for her mini class - she taught about making mixes and not using soy and preservatives and stuff you find in the mixes you buy at the store. Kind of a back to the basics cooking class.  She had a big display of dips and chips and tacos and stuff...like a whole meal set up.  Plus fancy laminated handouts with measure spoons and stuff.  She did a good job.

Thursday we went to the Grand Canyon.  We left in the morning and it takes about 3 hours to get there. We stopped in Jacob Lake and got cookies (those big fat fancy ones grandma brings back sometimes.  They are pricey...like $2 each or close to it!!!)  But they are Gooooooood.  We continued on to the grand canyon and had a picnic (we brought lunch meat, bread, chips etc with us) and then hiked around a little.  We went out to Bright Angel Point trail...short walk that takes you out to a point where you can get some pretty good views and Cape Royal trail.  Another fairly short hike with beautiful views.  We were in the park a couple of hours walking around and seeing stuff.  We drove over to Kanab afterward and ate at Al's -- it's like Granny's in park city.  A hamburger and shake joint.  It was yummy.  We had packed overnight bags and were thinking about staying over but the girls wanted to come home for 24th parade and stuff so after dinner we climbed back in the car and drove some more!  It was a long day but it was good.  And we felt like we got plenty of the grand canyon in too!

Friday - Pioneer Day -  Holly and I walked in the parade, Katie cheered us on.  Then Katie and Holly ran the fishing booth for 2 hours.  It was HOT!  Luckily they were in the shade but it was still HOT!  They got home about 12:30 and had some lunch and then we went to gma and pas and did a water fight and made cookies and played games all afternoon.  Then we took the girls home and Dad and I went out with gma and pa to Costa Vida.  We did a a little shopping afterward and then came home and chilled.

Saturday we cleaned and hung around the house most of the day.  Then Julene texted and the girls and I went swimming for a couple of hours at WCCC.  Dad smoked a pork shoulder.  Dad tried to mow the lawn but a big giant rock got under it and flew across the yard and shut the mower down.  He got it to work a little but it was super weird.  He looked under and the blade had bent!  So we quit until Tuesday or Wednesday when the new blade arrives!  We had cookies and homemade rootbeer and fire works at Laura's last night with all her kids and kids and Wendy's family and us.  Gma and pa were in the temple and didn't come.  It was pretty casual...everybody just sitting around talking while Dallas and Taylor lit off lots and lots of fire works. The kids were running around and enjoying things too.

Today Gma and pa are having olive garden (they picked it up last night...had a gift certificate from their work and wanted to share).  I think Laura and Wendy and us are coming.  Not all Laura's kids tho...maybe just Taylor and Kennedy.

So if kind of felt like vacation/family week!  It's been fun but I can see that in our not too far off future we are back to the old grind!  I think school starts August 13 and Holly and Katie both start new schools this year.  Holly - Fossil, Katie - PVMS.  WOW summer went fast!

09/10/23 Hey, do you get to read letters on non-p day, p day?

First time trying a lime Pineapple was more pleasing than lime  Well...we went to Provo on Saturday and Sunday -- so your letter is a little later on Sunday than usual...but then I got to thinking...will you even get to see this before Thursday anyway?! So hopefully you're not sad that I'm late and all is well in CHILE.  It's a rainy sabbath here...which is weird cause we rarely get rain. But it is drizzly and rainy and our ride home was beautiful for 2 hours, raining for 1 1/2 hours, and then pretty good the rest of the way.  Let's see...what happened this week...Monday was Labor Day...so we had a day off work. Yeah!!!  We didn't have anywhere we needed to go and planned to have a quiet Monday but first, we went to this store called Sheridan's that is super close to our house. And we found some wonderful outdoor patio furniture. It took us 3 trips to get it all home and all afternoon to unpack and assemble it. So at 5:30, we were just finishing and kinda tired ...

11/09/24 The temple

St George Temple This morning I woke up early and continued to read "Your Endowment", a book Grandma Griffin gave me several years ago but that I never read cover to cover. It is of course, about the temple and the meaning behind the endowment and the other things we learn about in the temple. I'll be honest, a lot of it feels "over my head".  I am seeking to learn and know and understand more but I don't have a thorough understanding at this time.  Kathy and Steve Spring Yesterday I went to visit Kathy Spring. She worked at Washington City for many years and retired almost 3 years ago. We were good friends and she helped me in the court for quite awhile. Her husband died in January of 2020...looking back she is convinced it was covid but it was just before covid really became a thing. So it's not official. In about a years time she lost her Dad, her husband, her son and a grandson. Life was pretty rough when we were friends back then and I could see the...

10/15/23 Last Letter!

Hey! Can you believe it?!  It's your last letter from home!!! This time next week you'll be one tired Hermana sitting in my kitchen with me!!!  What a week!  Monday was Columbus Day - so everybody had to work ('cept me!!!!) haha I stayed home and worked on projects. I took your car to the tire shop and had the tires inflated and then to Walmart and got an oil change then to the car wash and got the shebang inside and out and then brought it home and scrubbed it for a couple more hours. Wow, it was dirty and still isn't great! haha.  I also cleaned the pool and worked on the yard a bit and I don't even remember what else. I just remember I was super tired by day's end!  On Tuesday Emmalee came over and did Holly's hair and makeup. She looked really pretty. Afterward, we went to the Covington Home to take pictures. And the funny thing...it was decked out in Halloween decorations. NOOOOO!!!! So we found some areas and took some pictures and I think we got a ...
