11/01/15 Primary program, FHE, road trip

Beginning of trunk-or-treat activity
It's been another great week in Southern Utah.  I can't believe we are into November and it's really just been t-shirt weather so far.  Forecast kind of looks like it might cool down this week but it still shows sunny. I love this area!

We made it through the primary children's sacrament meeting last week. I had to play 9 songs - 6 with the whole primary and 3 with small groups of children doing special numbers.  Holly was so brave...she sang I stand all amazed with the Olsen twins.  Each girl sang one verse alone and then they sang each chorus together.  Holly sang the third verse.  She did awesome.  That seems terrifying to me!  Dad recorded it so maybe he can figure out how to get you a copy of it.

Cool trunk deco!
Monday we went to Dickie's house for a FHE.  They have the pool and pickleball courts so it is the best place for family parties!  We all brought pizza and salad and dessert.  Austin and Lyndsi played pickleball with me and Katie while Dad, Gpa, Ed and Dallas played.  (They have 2 courts)  We all played for about an hour and then Gpa walked backward and fell.  I didn't see it (we quit a little before them) but I think he knocked his head and bum and wrists.  He is still sore and pained a little by it.  So that was a total bummer.  He didn't go to the dr or anything.  So he says his pickleball career is over.  Too bad too.  He was pretty good and really enjoyed it.  I think everyone had a nice time and I hope we continue to go have FHE there.

Tuesday Holly had a band concert.  I of course didn't go since it was 5:30 p.m. I guess it was short and sweet.  Katie helped Mrs. Hodek a little with the kids.

Wright's decorated a trailer!
Wednesday we had the ward trunk-or-treat and chili cook off and it was amazingly well attended and just a great party.  There was lots of chili and soups and hotdogs.  There were tons of people dressed up and lots of neat trunks.  I think it lasted about 2 hours and it was just a nice activity.  The whole side parking lot was just full of people.

Thursday Katie had volleyball at church.

Friday Dad and I went to Garland Utah to watch the Pine View HS football play Bear River HS.  LONG day!  5 hours drive each way and then couple hours of football in between.  We got a rental car and it was nice and did well on the drive.  We had a nice day together.  We had KFC for lunch and Astro Burger for dinner (at 9 p.m.)  Surprised AJ -- he didn't know I was up there.  So that was fun to see him and have dinner with him. I told dad if we just kept driving we could be up to see you in not too many more hours!  Haha!  We got home at 1:30 in the morning.  Yikes! That is WAY too late for me!

Saturday the car had to be returned by 9:30 a.m. so I got up and took it at 8 and then went to spin class.  The girls had volleyball games at the rec center.  Our team won the first set and lost the 2nd.  They were kind of tired and the overhead basketball stuff didn't go up very high so it kept interfering with their balls.  Oh well.  The team is really good and I think they will win most of their games.  A loss every once in a while is good for them.

Ana Carnavale got baptized yesterday and it seems like the whole ward came.  It was a super great turnout.  Afterward they had a "ward party" at her house.  Very well attended.  They served little fried potato balls (something Brazilian) and salad and pork sandwiches and pie.  It was good and fun to visit with the neighbors.

Pretty as a princess!
Last night Katie went to Clark's for a Halloween party with Emmalee Wright and Holly went trick-or-treating with the Riley's for like 3.5 hours.  She came back with piles of candy! I dressed up and handed out candy -- sat on the porch for awhile.  I think everyone thinks this is the rich area.  We had tons of kids I didn't recognize.

Quote for the week:
Holly's a motorcycle chick!
There cannot be a crisis next week.  My schedule is already full.  Henry Kissinger.
That is awesome!  I need to try to keep my schedule full every week, right?!

We were watching the Washington St football game last night going on up in Spokane and it was raining, raining, raining.  Bleh.  We felt sorry for you having to be up in the wet!  So stay dry!

Holly
Love you lots and can't wait to hear about your week.  Make sure and write me lots and send me pictures.  It makes my week!!!! xoxo mom

01/12/26 Just a couple of things going on

Every Monday night we do family night pizza. This has included Eldon and Diane for quite awhile now. They left on a round the world cruise and will be gone from January - May. So we sent them a pic of these two cuties and told them we missed them.  Found this fun scratch off -- you can mark everywhere you've been. We want to travel in our retirement and thought this would be a fun way to keep track of it. (We also have a world map but I think 1 on the wall is enough).  SO this is our little inspiration wall to remind us to get out and see the world! Holly painted this picture on her wall a couple of years ago. I added some words and music notes in vinyl to it. I'm working on turning her bedroom into my music sanctuary.  The WELCOME pineapple sign was starting to peel off. I took off all the vinyl and painted the words instead. Gave it a nice refresh! We signed up for classes at the college too -- currently we are taking World travel, AI (artificial intelligence), Aging an...

01/13/26 How Many Cookies?!?!?

I planned to visit Washington City and go to the ladies luncheon (they do it monthly on shut off day). I found a new recipe that included putting smashed pretzels in the mix. (I had smashed pretzel, cereal mixture leftover from Christmas).  The recipe said it would make 22 cookies. I figured I would triple it and have 66.  Welp...they must have been some BIG cookies they were making...cause I got 126 cookies!!!!  What the heck?! I backed 24 of them and put the rest in the freezer. Someone will have a nice treat another day!

08/23/25 Organ

The Washington First Ward Building was sold to the City of Washington. Part of my responsibilities included dispensing of the organ and pianos in the building (along with other things).  It is an Allen, approximately 1970s.  I put the organ up on the auction. There were a couple of other people that were bidding on it, but I ultimately won the bid (for under $100). On the day I won the bid I was able to arrange a mover!!! I paid $250 to have someone from the piano store move it to our house (I have no idea how he managed to get that into the back bedroom....but he did it!!!) Then, it wouldn't work. 😭 I waited for approximately 6 weeks before a guy (who had to be 80 years old) came down from SLC and repaired the organ. (So the organ wasn't actually broken, it had to do with the electricity and the house talking nicely to one another.) It took him a couple of hours to figure it out. He charged about $200 and voila! I have a working church organ.  Cool, eh?  Now, I got...
