10/17/95 Journal Entry -- Finally, New house!

10/17/95 Tuesday

What a week!  On Thursday Greg Wood called from the credit union and said $ was available.  We close Friday, October 13 at 7.12%.

Moved Friday night to Saturday afternoon. Unpacked all night.

Ruth came down from Provo and Laura and Ben worked their tails off!  Sunday we went to our new ward.  It is BIG!

Couldn't get gas hooked up until today so we've had no hot water or stove or oven or heat (we don't need that!)

Furnace is broken.  Title co called and said they made an error $1608.92 owed today.  What a joke!  I emptied out our accounts to pay it.

I'm exhausted and frustrated and still happy to have a beautiful new home.

10/10/95 Journal Entry - Still no house!!!! But feeling blessed

10/10/95

Still no house - maybe this week.  Haha.

Money ran out of the last issue on the people right before us.  More money may come in at a lower rate.  We'll have to see.

Dallas is really growing up in a hurry. He is crawling very well on his knees, standing up on things and moving while holding furniture.  He's been really fussy this past week.  Maybe a cold or teeth.  I don't know.  I held him on the coucn all night Saturday. he is really a mama's boy and cries when I leave or come in the room.

AJ is also growing up fast.  He's so independent.  He knows what he wants and often gets it.  Saturday Gma and Gpa Griffin were leaving to go home and Aj said, "Where are you going?". Grandma says, "Home to Salt Lake City."  AJ says, "Ok, just a minute I'll get my shoes on!"

He is a really good looking little boy.  I sure am lucky to have such a neat family.

Andy's been busy training Dean Rock.  Last two weeks he doubled his normal take home pay cause he had so much overtime.  Poor guy!  Soon he should be down to 40 hours a week I hope!  Miss the $ but love to get to know my honey again!

Need to lose 10 lbs from Dallas.  Nursing seem to have REALLY increased my appetite.  I walk 2 miles most days but it doesn't seem to help.  Dallas is almost weaned.  1 or 2 feedings is all now so hopefully I'll see a decrease in my appetite and weight.

I feel really blessed.  We paid $600 in tithing and Andy started getting mega overtime and I have found most things I want and need on sale or at yard sales.  I paid another $200 this week. I'm trying to stay on top of it.  I know it's important but it sure is a tuff concept when I think of all that we could use the money for.  I just have to have faith and know that the Lord will bless us if we do it.

09/24/95 Journal Entry - Finding treasures at a yard sale and setting goals

09/24/95, Sunday

Well supposedly this week we get our house.  Monday or Tuesday.  I am excited and nervous. There are so many things we'll need to get and do.  I am worried about the neighbors and AJ needs friends.

I feel very blessed and think the Lord is really taking care of our needs and wants.  It has been a huge struggle to pay tithing but I feel so blessed since we have.  It seems like I find exactly the things I need on sale or at a yard sale and that somehow things work out. Just in the last month all of the things I wanted to get AJ for his birthday I found at a yard sale for under $10!  A bike, chutes and ladders and a helicopter toy.  I found Dallas a car seat - the exact one I wanted.  I was talking to Laura and saying I didn't have any winder clothes for AJ and the neighbor boy knocked on the door and gave us a big pile, all the right size.  It has been one blessing after another.

And now the house has finally started working out too.

I want to be the best mommy I can be for my boys.  I really love them.  I ned to start having FHE each week now that AJ's four and can understand.

I also need to continue practicing piano.  I feel truly blessed that I have been that I have been able to play and I don't want to lose my talent.

I will miss the ward and Michelle Schnabel, Kathryn Parry and Janice Oviatt.  They have made my Sunday's something to look forward to.  I hope I can feel apart of our new ward in a hurry. That's important to me.

09/06/95 Journal Entry Patience on getting the home, lots of work for Andy

Wednesday, September 6, 1995

Still more problems getting into our home.  I'm beginning to wonder if it will every happen. Papers were mailed to SLC and arrived after Brent left for the week. (guy processing the paperwork)

Andy has worked about 28 days with no days off now.  The guy they are to hire will be in on Saturday to interview from Kentucky.  So probably another 3 weeks for Andy with no time off.  He's getting burned out.  I am trying to be supportive and make life easy as possible for him at home but it's been hard on all of us.

AJ doesn't want to listen and I get tired of chasing him while taking care of Dallas too.  Things will be better soon.

Michelle Schnabel and Rayme came over last night to hang out and go for a walk.  It was fun.

I can tell summer is going because it is almost 7 a.m. and it's still pretty dark.  I love it when the sun shines from early in the morning until late at night.  It is still SO hot here.  100's (109!!) is what it's been forever!

08/24/95 Journal Entry Date night!

Thursday 8/24/95

Latest news on the house is that it is not in a FHA approved neighborhood so they've got to get it approved.  Takes a couple of days. Ugh. We'll be lucky to be out by September 1.  We may not get it if interest rates go up more.  Were at 6.96% now at 7.28%.  Just have to wait and see.  Try our patience out (and faith!)

Andy and I went out alone together today. First time in a LONG time.  We went to Eldon's work - Learn Key - then went and hit a bucket of balls at the golf club. Then to K-Mart to see what they charge for bikes for AJ's 4th birthday and finally for a nice 4 p.m. lunch at Paula's Mexican Restaurant.  It was really nice to be alone and be able to hold hands in the store and talk and not be interrupted.  I really enjoyed it.  I hope we take time to do that more often.

Dallas had a rough night with his cold and I'm tired!

08/21/95 Journal Entry Preparing for Aj's 4th birthday, loving my baby Dallas, Andy working all the time

8/21/95

We still haven't heard about our new place in Hurricane. They said it will probably be another week before we can close.  That would be AJ's 4th birthday.  We don't want to move then!

AJ is really excited for his birthday.  He wants to go to Fiesta Fun (we're going Saturday for Andy's work picnic), McDonald's for a burger (probably Monday at lunch and we'll take Taylor) and get his big new bike.  We'll probably have to find a used bike for him or do something else. A new one costs about $65-$75 at Walmart.

AJ loves yellow.  He started to love yellow at about 2 and colors all his pictures at church all yellow.  It's really cute and easy to find things he likes!  I never really realized kids got preferences in color so early in life.

Dallas is really cute.  He is getting pretty good at getting around.  Still crawls better backward then forward.  He can sit unassisted for short periods of time. He loves to hold your hands and stand up.  He had apple sauce yesterday and bananas today for his first time.  REALLY likes bananas. And apple juice w/cereal.  He has a beautiful smile that he uses more often lately.

Tonight I tried to get him to sleep by himself. He cried for 15 minutes.  I went and got him and held him for less than 1 minute and he was out. I should enjoy just holding him every night and not try to make him grow up!  I rock him to sleep every time now.

Poor Andy's been working w/o a night off for 1.5 weeks now.  That's not so bad except he still doesn't know if or when a new editor will come in.  He worked 70 hours M-F last week.  not only did he do his job, and the assistants but he also put out a tab. He got home at 8 a.m. Wednesday -- worked 2-5 p.m. and 7p-7a -- an all nighter!  YUCK!  Hopefully once this other position is filled he'll just work 40 hours a week and feel a little more human.

Our ward here seems fickle.  Not really dedicated. Relief Society usually only has 10-15 sisters.  I was called to be RS pianist in December 94 and have really loved my calling.  It has made me practice and get better and not be afraid.  I have really enjoyed not having a big audience and being about to say, oh well, just a few people heard me screw up!  I hope I continue to practice and play in our next ward.  I never played for people before this and it was a real growing experience for me.  Someday I want to be good enough to play in front of sacrament meeting and not mess up!  I would love to be the temple organist and get to just practice in the peaceful chapel for an hour or two once or twice a week. It is so peaceful there.

I finally have my whole temple outfit now and my recommend expired!  Need to go get a new one but I hate doing the interviews.  Told Andy I better start going or die (you know your buried in your clothes -- we need to put them to use!)  Think I'd rather go to the temple!  I'm only 26 - I hope I have a few decades left yet!

08/09/95 Journal Entry and Aj funnies

08/09/95

It has been 8 years since I've written almost to the day.  So much has happened.  I don't know where to start.

Andy and I got married October 4, 1988 on a Tuesday morning.  It was a beautiful ceremony  at the Jordan River Temple.  I graduated from Utah State University in Business Information Systems in June of 1991.

AJ was born August 28, 1991 and Dallas was born March 27, 1995.  We have lived in Provo, Salt Lake City, Logan (2 different places), Moscow, Idaho, Cedar City and St. George. And we are hoping to buy a home any day now in Hurricane, Utah.

Andy has been the sports editor for almost a year at the Daily Spectrum. It has kept him really busy this year.

Dallas was born Monday, March 27, 1995. We went into the hospital about 7 a.m. and by 8 a.m. they put me on the pit drip to induce labor.  At 10 a.m. they broke my water which is when labor gets painful and it took until noon to get an epidural.  At 1 p.m. they moved us over to a delivery room and by 1:40 p.m. Dallas was born.  The cord was wrapped around his neck 3X so they had to stop him and cut the cord before they delivered him.

He weighed 8 lb. 9 oz. and was 19 1/2" long.  Just a beautiful baby.  He looked a lot like AJ.  It took awhile for me to all him Dallas and not AJ!  Andy and AJ spent the night together and then came and got us the next morning.  Dallas slept in my room on my chest all night.  It was a very special time.

He took to nursing right away and switches from bottles to nursing easily. He was very fussy the first 2.5 months and then we added formula and he started being more active and now at 4.5 months he is very happy. He hates the car and he loves to be outside.

AJ loves to pickup Dallas and carry him around.  It makes me nervous but he is careful. He really loves his little brother.  He is very good at entertaining Dallas.  It makes getting things done easier sometimes.

AJ is a sunbeam now.  He loves to go to church.  Last month he gave a 1 minute talk in sacrament meeting. He is such a ham.

This week I stopped in primary and he got to choose a song.  His song leader pointed out that mommy was in the back and he should sing real loud for his mom.  As loud as he could he sang, "I have a family" over and over again (the song is supposed to continue "here on earth..etc")   Every one was having a hard time singing the actual words.  When the song was over he ran to the back of the room and gave me a huge hug!  It made me feel special.

Tonight AJ was eating lasagne with us and he got too much in his mouth and almost choked.  He ept that mouthful in and had one left on his plate.  We asked him to just eat one more bite.  he didn't want to so when he did finally stick it in there the little stinker threw up his whole dinner all over himself.  Teach us to try to get AJ to eat!

One funny story about AJ happened probably almost a year ago.  We were at Eldon and Diane's place and a fly was on the table in the living room.  AJ really liked to stomp out bugs - hard.  So we said, hey AJ, get that bug.  He picked up his little barefoot and smashed it down on the coffee table -- hard. And started crying. It was SO funny to watch that I could hardly stop laughing to console him.

AJ and Taylor are best buddies. It has been nice to have Ben and Laura close.  Laura and I walk every morning 1.5-2 miles while AJ and Taylor play.  It's been good for all of us.

Hopefully it won't be so long before I write again.
