08/26/12 MOVING

8/26/12
Well we survived the moved!  Aagggh.  WOW what a lot of work!  And what a crazy week!

I think by the end we were running on fumes!

So the sale of our home never went through on Friday, as it was supposed to.  Then it didn't go through again on Monday.  On Tuesday we got an email that it DID go through at 2:30 p.m.  Then at about 7 p.m. dad got a phone call that it DIDN'T go through and they needed a signed statement by a licensed contractor that the work we had done on the roof was properly done.  Dad made phone calls and wasn't having much luck (I was of course in court, no help at all!).  I think around 8:30 p.m. he called Ryan Hirschi who willingly ran over and checked things out and wrote a letter.  Submitted that to the other people only to get a call shortly after that they wanted MORE in the letter.  So at almost 10 p.m. Dad calls Ryan AGAIN and he changes the letter and we have to run over and grab it and go to work and scan and email it to the mortgage company.  Wednesday never hear much all day long.  Don't know whats going on.  HOWEVER, I pulled up our mortgage to turn off auto pay in September and it's PAID OFF!!! Yeah it DID go through.  Seems like late Wednesday evening they notified us that the purchase of our house went through and Thursday at noon we got the check and keys to the house.  Sigh.  Holy smokes!  I don't think it's supposed to be this much of a hassle!

Lots of empty boxes
In the mean time, we were all packed up and ready to go LAST Friday and are "camping" in our house -- all beds down, stuff packed and out on the back porch or piled in the laundry room.  You get the idea, total chaos.  And we told everyone we were moving on Monday night so we had a "crew" lined up.  Dad called the people at Salisbury (our home builder) and told them what was going on and they said we could move in.  So we did!

Monday night our ward showed up -- lots of them -- too may to name..but Dad did on facebook & the 3rd ward and our family.  Here is the list:

Yes thanks so much! 8th: Ryan, Landon, Nathan, Amy, Byron, Preston, Cheryl, John, Bryce, Andrew, Daylemarie, Rachel, Darby, Lauren, McKenzie, Morgan, Jodi, Kendall, Elder Campbell. Elder Castro, and anyone I forgot

TY to 3rd warders: Allgoods, Langston and the rest whose names I have not learned yet.

Thx to fam, too: Mom, Dad, Ben, Laura, Nick, Sam, Eddie, Wendy, Maddie, Abbie, Emma, Aaron, Dallas, Bryce!

In record time, about 3 hours, we had the old house empty and cleaned and the new house full of boxes, most in the proper room (they were labeled) and all kids beds up.  Talk about a new brand of tired!

Both Dad and I worked all day Monday and Tuesday during all this too...
Bryce's new room

Tuesday everyone had to go to school and work. I took off the morning but ended up with an 8 hour day because court went long into the night!

Bryce & Dallas chilling in the new family room
About 11:30 p.m. on Monday evening we were just about to finally drop off to sleep and our door bell rings.  We both look at each other like, WHAT?!  We are so tired neither one of us wants to get up but Dad does and goes to the door.  Nobody there.  ??  So he yells, who's there.  No answer.  Starts coming back to bed when the door knocks again.  He goes back and it's the cops!  They were checking on the house because it's been empty and a model for so long (AND Salisbury never took down the sign saying it was still a model!!)  So dad explains that we just moved into the house and they go away.

The next day at work I ask them why they knocked so late at night.  They said when they pulled up in the cruiser a light in the upstairs window went off just as they pulled up and they thought that was suspicious...DALLAS!!!  (Anyway, it was coincidence -- Dallas had no idea they were out there!)

So the week continued with Dad working mega hours and us trying to get way too much done in too short a time.

Dad bought a Chevy Silverado Truck on Monday...can't remember the year..94???  78K miles -- which is really low and great.  Verified -- title and miles came back clean!!!  It seems like a really decent nice truck.  And it's been helpful in carting things to the DI and getting furniture and loads etc.  It is pretty comfy to drive.  Filled it with gas (and it wasn't empty...)  $72.  Ouchy!  big tank.  We'll have to be conservative on driving that around!

Katie and Holly chilling in the new family room
We ordered furniture Wednesday night after work -- said it might be 14 days before we get it.  So our living room is pretty empty.

I took off Thursday and Friday to put things back in working order.  Got lots done.  The house is so beautiful.  Hopefully we can keep it that way!
Beautiful new kitchen

And hopefully things will mellow out a little bit too...  We have been going far to fast for far too long!  Need a break!

Hope you have had a great productive week.  The Elder that we have been working with goes home same as Taylor (next transfer day) and he seems to be doing pretty well at staying focused.  He is only from Salt Lake though...talk about bogus...he's only 4 hours from home!!!!

Anyway, love you lots and keep up the good works!  By the time you get to us we should have all the hard work done and you can just stroll in and enjoy it!

Love you son!  Mom.

08/14/12 Letter to Grandpa Laurito

8/14/2012 LETTER TO DAD (RAYMOND LAURITO)

I just barely found this email today!  Ha, weird!

The home is coming along I guess...should be moving this week but we still don't know when closing is.  Maybe tomorrow?!  I can't believe how in the dark they are keeping us.  Oh well,  I am too busy to worry about it!

We had a "going away party" last night thrown by some friends in the ward.  Had swimming and pizza and cookies at the clubhouse at one of the townhomes.  It was great.  Good crowd but not too big!

Tonight I will work until late (been 9 p.m. the last 2 weeks) and then we have an appointment with the stake presidency (about what we don't know?!) tonight at 8:30 p.m.

Tomorrow I have YW and the kids start school.

Thursday is back to school night and Friday night is the first football game of the season so Andy has been incredibly busy preparing and then of course he will be busy every Friday from now on!

So, yeah.  We need to move, but who has time!! Just Kidding.  We'll figure it out!

I have been refinishing all the wood -- kitchen table, stools, dresser, shelves and the boys bunk beds to a nice rich dark stain to match our house better.  I put the last layer of lacquer on this morning so they should be ready to move any time.  We are planning to buy a sectional for our "extra" family room.  We have one picked out but didn't want to order it until we know for sure when we'll be in the house!

We sold our washer and dryer and they should be hauled off tomorrow maybe.  We sold a little picnic table and our trampoline and some other little things but mostly we've just hauled everything off to D.I.  It feels good to clean out.

Although I must say...even with all the removing of items to bare-bones the girls bedroom is still TRASHED!!!!!  I have to refrain from going back there because I can't figure out how they do it!?!  They have like 6 outfits each, bedding and some barbies.  And the room still looks like a bomb went off.  Sigh.  I may have to surrender.  I don't think I can win this battle.  If you have any brilliant ideas I am happy for any help with those 2!

Yes, life is chaotic but good here!

Well, today should be a blur so I better get after it!  Love you lots and we'll let you know as we find out what's going on!
Love, Shelly

08/13/12 Why Dallas didn't get the job...

8/13/12  Why Dallas didn’t get the job...

I thought you might enjoy this little exchange about your brother:

Dallas went and applied to work at Seagull Books.  My friend Marilyn's
daughter is the manger
there so I encouraged him to apply since we "know" people.

So Marilyn told me a little about Dallas' job interview.  She said her daughter
Melony asked him why he applied to work there and his response was,
"My mother made me."

Oh boy.

She asked if he had read many of the books there and he said,
"no, I don't really enjoy reading."

I guess you can guess that he didn't get the job.

Melony did say that she enjoyed his honesty.

She said Melony hired another older lady who is knowledgeable about
churchy books and that she might need him in the fall when she needs
muscles not counter help.

Funny, huh.

08/05/12 Stay-cation & then on to Capitol Reef & worries

8/5/12
This week has been so busy it is kind of a blur!  Work has been super
busy since we had off last week for 24th.  We had 59 cases that we
handled Tuesday night and court didn't end until 9 p.m.  Ouchy.
That's a wee bit too long even for me!  I am hoping this week will be

much less busy!

Worked hard Wednesday cleaning all of court up and since I ended up
having about 6 extra hours by end of day Wednesday I just took
Thursday off completely.  It felt good!  Dad had some work to do and
Dallas had school so I was able to pack and do a little work around
the house.

We were going to go on Thursday to Capitol Reef for the family
reunion but decided to stay home and clean out dad's closet and a
couple other little projects and have a 1-day "stay-cation" here
instead of spending all the $ on a motel room Thursday night.  We took
the kids to a movie (they got to bring a date) and then went to the
park in the middle of St. George and got to play in the water.  Then
we went to Pizza Hut for dinner and then came home.  I think everybody
enjoyed it. Then we got up and left a little after 9 a.m. for our
actual vacation.  We stopped at Gma and pa's house and dropped off
coolers for them to use since Grandma was in charge and was bringing
all the food.

my tuff guys!
We decided to go up through Richfield and then take a scenic drive
route for just a small portion of our trip.  (Last time we went
through Escalante and Bryce Canyon...quite a bit more scenic and
longer too!).  We enjoyed the pretty drive and arrived in Capitol Reef
early afternoon.  We checked into the Days Inn and the kids swam and
played until everyone else arrived.  Friday evening there was a short
talent show (Dad performed his cowboy poetry) and then we just hung
out with everyone and there were cookies and sodas.

Saturday morning Grandpa was supposed to take everyone for a hike and
we were supposed to meet at 8:30.  The whole family is pretty lame.
Only our family and Maddie Dickie ended up going!  Which was fun.  The
hike was about 2 hours and was very beautiful.  Kind of a steep climb.
Grandma and the girls went on a river walk that ended at the little
shop in Capitol Reef and they had ice cream.  They loved that!  It was
the 75th anniversary of the park this weekend so we got everybody
('cept Dad) a 75th year t-shirt.  They were cute and not too pricey so
it was nice to get a little souvenir.

After our hike we went back to shower and get dressed in our matching
t-shirts (Dallas cowboy patriotic for our family) and then went back
to the park for hoagies and chips.  We played games and hung out most
of the afternoon.  We went for a scenic drive that is new to the park
I guess.  It was nice.  We had sloppy joes for dinner and then they
did a talk about the folks thing where Uncle Don talked about his
parents and then each of the siblings took turns remembering stories
about Gma and pa Bahr.  It was almost like a testimony meeting as some
of the memories were spiritual in nature but some were pretty funny
too and a little irreverent.  Your dad got up and told a story about
staying with gma and Johnny Carson came on with Charo (she is a little
mexican hotty that let's her stuffin' hang out...if you know what I
mean).  Anyway, when she came on the screen gma reached over and said
very loudly, Oh my hell, and covered his 14 year old eyes until Charo
was off the screen.  He shook himself imitating her and got quite the
laugh from the family.  Probably the best laugh of the whole night!

After dinner the kids went back and swam and the adults went out for
ice cream.  It was nice.  Don and Pat, Gma and pa, us and ben and
laura.  Nice group.  Just sat around and talked for an hour.

This morning we got up and had breakfast.  The girls ate with Emma and
the rest of us were in another breakfast room.  It was nice to relax
and eat breakfast with everyone.  We all left about the same time and
met at Grandma and pa's house to unload their car and put everything
away and have lunch together.  We came home and had a nice much needed
nap.  We are now winding down and getting ready for another very busy
week.

We should be closing on the house within 7-10 days and then moving out
24-48 hours after whenever the closing date ends up being.  We have
finished up all the little things we needed to fix ... new screens,
new fans on the roof, replacing roof tiles, new garbage disposal and
fixing the sprinkler that was spraying the house.

I have redone the kitchen table to a nice dark wood color to go with
the house and just finished a dresser too.

We still struggle with Dallas and keeping him on the right path.  He
is a special challenge because he is so dang pleasant and nice to be
around but he is playing with fire with the girlfriend thing.  We have
caught him in a couple of lies and I have to thank the still small
voice whispering in dad's or my ear to advise us to check into what
he's up to.   It is frustrating because he says he wants one thing (a
mission) but continues to make poor choices that will not get him
there if he continues down that path.  I don't know why he feels he
needs to lie to us but he does.  He is still a lousy liar which is
helpful in parenting.  I wish he would just listen to us.

We were talking to the adults last night and mentioned that Dallas was
dating a non-member and she was taking the discussions.  Ben and Laura
were like, oh, hope that works out better for you than it did for us
with Nick and Liz.  They said they kind of went through the same thing
in the beginning and that it all fell apart.  (Obviously!!!)  That
really didn't feel good to hear.  So we tread lightly and hope that we
can keep Dallas on the right path.  He is with the missionaries
tonight helping them for about 3 hours so that is a good thing.

We are going to the visitor center tomorrow night with Kat and she
agreed to get baptized this month after her first discussion earlier
this week.  We still have to get permission from her guardian so it is
by no means a done deal.  We gave her the strength of youth pamphlet
and plan to talk with her and Dallas together about proper behavior
morality speaking.

I keep telling him that I have taught him right from wrong and it's
ultimately up to him what he ends up doing.  I can't be with him 24-7,
ya know!?

Well, pray for your brother and for us too.  I think that's at least a
good start and we'll keep trying to keep him close!

My friend said you might have a hard time not getting to come home to
the home you left...so maybe before we pack up we'll take lots of pix
of everything so you have one last look at the home you remember!  I
think you'll really like the new one and it will be ok though!

Keep working hard and focusing on the work and everything will work
out wonderful for you when you come home!  Promise!  Love you lots.
Mom.
