07/22/12 Dallas' talk about Camp Helaman

7/22/12 talk Dallas gave in church

Camp Helaman

Three weeks ago we went to Camp Helaman, which is for priest age young men.

It is a mission prep camp. We spent three days up in Cedar Mountain, learning how to be

I had the privilege to be one of the zone leaders of our 3 zones in our stake, my

duties included leading the morning devotionals for my zone. One morning I was to use

quotes from a conference talk and bare my testimony, then the second morning I led my

Here is an example of a morning devotional we might have put together.

ALMA 26:35 Now have we not reason to rejoice? Yea, I say unto you, there

never were men that had so great reason to rejoice as we, since the world began; yea, and

my joy is carried away, even unto boasting in my God; for he has all apower, ball wisdom,

and all understanding; he comprehendeth all things, and he is a cmerciful Being, even

unto salvation, to those who will repent and believe on his name.

The savior atoned for our sins and pleaded to his father to remove the pain.  He

had to go through this pain in order to save us from having to endure this pain, if we will

repent.  If we will acknowledge that we have sinned and then pray for forgiveness we

will not have to endure the pain for our sins.

It was good practice to learn how to organize a devotional and lead a discussion.

We had some great firesides and devotionals while we were up there, teaching us

both ways to help us while we serve a mission and ways to prepare us for a mission.  The

talks helped to reinforce my decision to serve a mission.

I learned a lot about the benefits of serving a mission which include learning to

budget, living with someone else, budgeting your time, teaching other, developing my

testimony and gospel knowledge and many more things.

I plan on following the example of my older brother AJ by serving a mission.

Before my  brother left for his mission he started coming into Bryce and my room

each night and reading scriptures with us.  He helped us to get in the habit or reading and

praying each night.  Since he left  I have continued the habit of reading my scriptures and

praying every night before bed.   This has helped me through difficult times in my life

and helped to keep me focused and on the right track.

I have started attending the missionary prep class taught by Brother Chamberlain

and I have really enjoyed his lesson and look forward to continuing taking his Sunday

I am thankful for the leaders that spent so much time and effort to put together

such an inspirational and educational camp. It was a really great experience and I am glad

11/09/24 The temple

St George Temple This morning I woke up early and continued to read "Your Endowment", a book Grandma Griffin gave me several years ago but that I never read cover to cover. It is of course, about the temple and the meaning behind the endowment and the other things we learn about in the temple. I'll be honest, a lot of it feels "over my head".  I am seeking to learn and know and understand more but I don't have a thorough understanding at this time.  Kathy and Steve Spring Yesterday I went to visit Kathy Spring. She worked at Washington City for many years and retired almost 3 years ago. We were good friends and she helped me in the court for quite awhile. Her husband died in January of 2020...looking back she is convinced it was covid but it was just before covid really became a thing. So it's not official. In about a years time she lost her Dad, her husband, her son and a grandson. Life was pretty rough when we were friends back then and I could see the...

11/10/24 Election, 28 year Anniversary, 1 year Anniversary and a Sealing

Well I'm starting this early cause tomorrow morning I'm going walking extra early. But I'm still calling it 11/10.   I'm gonna run through this week and see if anything was exciting.  But first...this picture...It just kills me!  When church is just too much! Haha.  I think that was at youth conference a couple of years ago and I think it's one of the Francis boys...but I couldn't swear to it! I know you're not supposed to take pictures in the chapel.  But seriously...I couldn't resist! Speaking of the Francis family. Today at 2:30 p.m. at the Red Cliff's Temple, they sealed Laith to their family. Laith will make child # 10 (or 12?)  (And he is 10 years old).  Laith's mother died very unexpectedly within the last couple of years. Shortly thereafter his father was arrested and has been sentenced to spend the rest of his childhood and beyond (I don't know the # of years) in prison. He's a challenging child AND he got bumped around a little....

11/03/24 How is it November already?

Yesterday is the first day I've felt good in a long time! Seriously!  I hope whatever is going on has finally left me. We did our day backwards. Dad slept in and we skipped pickleball. When he got up he had breakfast and then carved a pumpkin which I processed. It took 2 hours! (I had done one Friday night, same...2 hours!!!)  So we have 17 bags of "2 cups" of pumpkin in the freezer. We have 2 more pumpkins but we both feel like we are DONE with the pumpkin thing!! haha   While he was working on that I made pumpkin pie and chocolate pie (from scratch...like no pudding!!!).  They both look yummy. We'll know at dinner tonight!   We've been having the most beautiful sunrises.  While I was doing my weight lifting I had to stop and go take a picture -- it was glowing red through the windows!!!  We had a quiet Saturday - I did some laundry and yard work -- trimmed up some trees and picked up debris (no more mowing for me!)     At 6 p.m...
