2/15/16 Valentine's Day & President's day

Rachel Riley and Katie getting the drinks ready
Not sure if you get Pday today with the holiday!

The week has flown by as everyone is busy with school stuff/playoffs etc.  Monday we met with the insurance guy and started paperwork to get paid for our medical/motorcycle losses.  From what I hear things go slowly...but at least we're started.  I guess with medical you don't get paid until you decide you are done.  Which for us should hopefully be within 4-6 weeks (make sure dad's knee is ok).  But for people with major injuries it can be years... I never realized.  What a pain!

(Look how perfectly the table is arranged!)
The girls had an etiquette dinner Wednesday night. The evening started at 5:45 p.m.  with two boys, Preson and Tyne picking the girls up in a big red truck driven by one of the leaders.  They came to the door with roses and opened the doors and helped them in the truck.  I didn't get any pictures, boo.  I thought of it too late!  They went and had a speaker that told them rules of etiquette.  They ate dinner with the boys and they had opportunities to try out what they were being taught.  The boys had to go get food for the girls and bring it back and they learned about silverware and who knows what else.  I think they learned some things and they had a nice evening.

Intense basketball game!
Thursday the girls played ward basketball and their team won.  They have a pretty good little team this year.  Marlee came about 1/2 way through the game and watched the game with us.  Afterward we had a super speedy dinner (pizza popover things and french fries) and then went to her alma mater Snow Canyon to watch a girls game for dad's work.  It was Desert Hills vs. Snow Canyon and it was a pretty exciting game.  It was for the region championship.  Snow Canyon won (yeah!!! for Marlee's team).  The girls enjoy hanging with Marlee.  You might have to fight over her with them when you get home, haha!

Holly and the twins being silly
Friday we enjoyed dinner at Casa Dona Maria's with Gma and Gpa.  Good food, good company!  The weather here is wonderful so we followed them home and borrowed their electric trimmer for the bushes.  After dad went to work I went out and cut all of our roses and bushes in the yard.  It took until it was pretty dark to finish.  The girls came out and (joyfully -- NOT! haha) picked up what we could see of the debris.  We filled all 3 trash cans.  Uh-oh for the garbage this week!!!  There was a reward for them...told them I'd take them to the temple when we were done.

So by 7:30 we headed over to the temple.  I guess it was one of the busiest nights ever.  Aunt Laura said we should come back because they had a soccer team or two ahead of us.  Randy and Kay Phillips were working in the visitor's center so we took the opportunity to go get a tour and visit with them.  It was fun!  And they were pretty smart considering it was the first time they'd done that!!! (They worked doing that at Liberty jail and stuff so they know how to do it, they just have different stories to tell!)

We headed back over closer to 8:30 and the baptistery was still full.  We stayed anyway.  It was 9:30 before we all finally got dunked!  Gma and Gpa went to DQ with us afterward and we didn't get home until 10:30 or 11.  Late night!!!
Katie and April Moyes

Aj came down for the weekend and he came in even later than that!  I didn't see him until Saturday.

Saturday morning the girls volunteered at the Dog Town race.  I think this might be 5 or 6 times they've done it.  I'm pretty sure they've done it every year they've had the race!  The weather was perfect and it was a lot of fun.  They filled cups with water and Gatorade and then handed it out to the runners.  We were the first station on the marathon/half marathon course so we started at 7 a.m. and were done by 9 a.m.   Pretty quick and easy.

The rest of the day was pretty chill for us.  The girls played and hung out.  I worked on the yard some more.  Aj had a fun adventure but I'll let him tell you about it!  He has pictures and everything!!!! (lil roll-over in a razor -- don't worry, he's ok!)

Sunday morning Dad went to early morning meeting and I went on my early morning walk.  When we came back we noticed there was mess all over the soccer fields.  So we spent some time cleaning up litter.  Linda found a whole trunk full of treasures...stroller, umbrella, jackets, blankets, shoes, bags.  Can't believe how much stuff people just abandon!
Katie looking pretty while she plays ball

While we were doing that Brother Clove called 8 a.m. at this point, and says he isn't feeling well and will I play the organ for sacrament.  I had a meeting with the bishop at 8:30 to find out our new calling.  So we hurried home, dressed, played the songs 1x through 1 verse each and then headed to church.

Dad and I are going to be Marriage and Family relations Sunday school team teachers.  Once that class is done we'll teach parenting.  I don't know if we'll do this 1X and be done or if this will just keep repeating itself.  (Probably depends how good we are, haha!)  I think each class is 6-8 weeks so total it's like 4 months commitment or something if it's just 1X through.

I got released as camp assistant (wah). So sad!!!  Holly's first year this year!

Binder's blessed their baby today and we visited them after church and then came home and had meat rolls (put sweet pork in biscuits).

Katie made swig sugar cookies and they are SO DELICIOUS!!!!!

We had a wonderful meatball and rice meal at Gma and Gpas with Randy and Kay, Dallas, AJ & his friend Christian and us.  Grandma had some scriptures that had love in them (for valentine's day) and we each read our scripture and then talked about what it meant to us.  AJ taught us how to play warewolf (like Murder or one of those type games) too.  Everyone just hung out and visited.  Pretty chill evening.

Holly looking for some action in the game
Aj's off early to Zion (8 mile hike to overlook point) and some other adventures today and then he'll go home later this evening.  Hopefully he won't get caught up in too much traffic.

Dad has to work today so we'll just find some girl stuff to do today.  Not sure what yet!

This week in Sunday school and RS they talked about adversity.  They talked about how it can make us stronger and the Lord is there to help us along the way.  There were many good thoughts and quotes but this one is promising!

Psalms 34: 19 The righteous person may have many troubles, but the LORD delivers him from them all;

Katie was kind of concerned after her lesson -- she said she had a dream that someone died (she couldn't identify who, just someone she loved) and then we had lessons on adversity today.  She wanted to know if the Lord was trying to tell her something.  I told her I didn't know but that all of us must at some point deal with death and hardship and we never know when or where it will come from.  And that at some point she will most certainly have to deal with adversity.

We talked about not worrying about what MIGHT happen since usually the hardships are things we never dreamed of.  It's a hard thing to not stress and worry but I really feel like that is one of the tools of the devil.  He cripples us while we think of what may be in our future and we waste valuable time and energy on the what if's instead of taking care of the what is!

So that's my thought for the week.  Summed up:   Don't worry, be happy!

Love you and look forward to hearing from you!!!!  Hope you had a wonderful week!  Did your package(s) arrive?

06/14/25 Pre-Yellowstone

Last year for Christmas I purchased a vacation to Yellowstone for the kids and us. The dates for the Yellowstone cabin were June 16-June 20. We decided to break the trip up a little and drive up the weekend before and drive home the weekend after. Also, because Katie got married, and Dallas has limited time off, he was unable to take his family on the trip. We stayed at his house and got some twin time in before we continued north.  Aspen and John moved to Pennsylvania and are in Utah for the summer. On our way up north we stopped at Becky's house to see them and their sweet new baby.  Erik recently got a new job so he was also not able to join us on our trip. Holly became our little girl again and traveled with us.  Holly and Millie My dad's been in the care center so we stopped by to visit him. He's being well cared for. He is struggling to put sentences together. We came and went to church with him at the care center. He's been asking for a really good pizza. So we w...

06/16/25-06/20/25 Yellowstone

We had a really great week on our Yellowstone trip. We stayed at a VRBO cabin in a remote cabin in Ashton, Idaho. It was just right for our group. We were able to go to Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Mesa Falls, the Yellowstone Playhouse, Lava Hot Springs Pools and Slides.  We drove lots, played games, did puzzles, roasted hot dogs, made s'mores, enjoyed picnic lunches, ice cream at the frost top, dinners together made by each lil family and so much more.  Loved it! (There are lots more pictures in our shared Yellowstone google album. Also, these pictures are not in order of happening. )

08/20/25 Max out of pocket reached early again...hospital here we come

As is customary, within 7-10 days from returning from a trip we go to the hospital.  We stayed out of the ocean -- while we were in the Bahamas -- in order to keep Andy healthy. (We have determined that he has been getting infections through his swollen legs or cuts on his feet.)  Andy did not get infection from being naughty! haha BUT he somehow picked up COVID!  What the heck?! On Sunday last week (Aug 10) he started having a scratchy throat, voice. It got worse and most of last week he had laryngitis.  That resolved itself and he was feeling pretty fine. We had a full Wednesday. Around 9 p.m. he said he was feeling a little funky/woozy, whatever. Off?!   We went to bed and his temperature reading was still below normal but he was having body aches and shivering. We tried to sleep but he was clearly in pain and tossing and turning.  About 1:00 a.m. I got up and checked his temperature...100. Hmm. I looked at his legs and it looked like he might possi...
